The American Lawyer has recognized Jenner & Block as the No. 1 pro bono firm in the United States 10 times.OVERVIEWAs part of the Financial Services team the Project Accountant is involved in executing process improvement projects, documenting and strengthening internal controls, generating monthly financial statements, detailing balance sheet reconciliations, assisting with resolving audit inquiries, and analyzing financial data. Ideal candidates have senior-level accounting experience paired with a strong desire to improve their skillsets and familiarity with data, spreadsheets, and general ledger functionality.CORE RESPONSIBILITIESSupports the Controller with real estate project accounting (current office leases and rent expense and sublease schedules, office lease renewals, leasehold improvements, security deposits, cash flow projections)Plays a key role in process documentation, design and improvementCreates or enhances full documentation of current GL operating policies ,processes and proceduresAssists in identification and evaluation of internal controlsPerforms continuous process streamlining and improvementParticipates in monthly financial statement close processesEnsures all necessary adjusting and reclassifying journal entries are posted.Supports timely and accurate preparation of the financial statement package, including variance analysesPrepares and analyzes monthly balance sheet reconciliationsResolves reconciling items timelyGains a solid understanding of transactions affecting the balance sheet accountsServes as a subject matter expert on general ledger activities in balance sheet accountsWorks to improve general ledger and subsystem processes to limit reconciling itemsResponds promptly and professionally to internal and external business partners inquiries on general ledger activity and reportingParticipates in ad hoc financial projects assigned by accounting managementParticipates in and/or supports the financial team during upcoming software conversion and implementationBASIC QUALIFICATIONSBachelors Degree in AccountingAdvanced Excel skills including pivot tables handling, familiarity with various formulas(vlookups, if-then statements)Strong organizational, analytical, and verbal/written communication skillsData Analysis expertise and ability to identify drivers and underlying patterns for resultsTeam player with partnering, negotiating and consensus building skillsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSProficient in General Ledger / Financial Reporting SoftwareIntegration of ERP Software ModulesHandled process and/or workflow documentationParticipated in financial system upgrade, conversion, and implementation.Certified Public Accountant or working towards designationJenner & Block LLP is an equal opportunity employer.
