Position Overview:
The DevOps Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for ensuring our systems are best-in-class for stability, observability, and enterprise application scaling in the financial services industry. This role will be part of a key growth initiative within WFS and will partner with the application development teams to ensure the services are performant to business expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with DevOps teams to drive observability into our technology stacks and define metrics to improve IT service stability and meet business needs.
- Collaborate with engineering and DevOps to ensure our services are scalable and resilient.
- Create feedback for continual improvement and evolution of non-functional requirements.
- Knowledge of DevOps tooling and ability to partner with development teams to implement toolsets and train teams.
- Release and deploy foundational services to enable WFS engineering to move faster with confidence.
- Design and develop systems and processes that enable highly available & scalable systems.
- Design, build, and deliver software to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of WFS’s services.
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks to achieve breakthroughs in systems throughput.
- Leverage technology such as Python, GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform, Oracle, MySQL, Redis, ELK, and Snowflake to advance WFS's platform.
- Champion best practices by actively collaborating with other teams in a culture that values whiteboarding and technical design review.
- Contribute as a subject matter expert in multiple areas, pushing to be a better engineer and to level up peers within WFS.
- Mentor and pair with other WFS engineers to build better software focusing on performance, self-healing systems, configuration as code, defensive programming, and application security.
- Participate in periodic on-call duties focusing on solving issues when discovered, preventing recurrences, and minimizing alert fatigue.
- Prototype and advocate for architectural improvements to achieve breakthrough results in WFS systems' operational scalability and reliability.
- Work together with service-facing engineers to release and deploy impactful code.
- Perform quantitative analysis to understand and scale WFS systems and manage cross-functional efforts to resolve scalability issues.
- Produce and advocate for preventative, upstream solutions with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Make informed, data-driven decisions in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years proven experience with automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins) and configuration management.
- Solid understanding of monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java) for automation, scripting, and tool development.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) for code management and collaboration.
- Strong system administration and infrastructure background.
- Experience with Bash or PowerShell scripting.
- 5+ years working experience with Linux/Unix systems administration and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with networking concepts, protocols, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience with server provisioning, configuration, and management.
- Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform - provisioning resources and administration.
- Knowledge of security, including understanding how security works and data encryption.
- Experience with JIRA, ServiceNow, and GCP-based monitoring tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Willing to work on a hybrid schedule.
Compensation:
$100,000 to $130,000 USD per year. The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire and will depend on various factors, including geographic location, skill set, experience, education, and credentials.
