The Position:

This is complex lead level work involved in a central purchasing department related to the procurement of goods and services. The Senior Buyer leads and trains student assistants as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exchanges professional information with District and college staff, vendors, contractors, and others
  • Develops and confirms product specifications and quality expectations
  • Prepares bid specifications and analyzes bid results
  • Attends professional development meetings and workshops
  • Administers procurement card program and other procurement tools
  • Reviews and issues purchase orders
  • Uses computer software for data analysis and administrative tasks
  • Composes correspondence and prepares announcements
  • Maintains online purchasing resource pages
  • Develops training materials and provides training to staff
  • Participates in District-wide committees
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a closely related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Successful work experience in purchasing and volume buying, bid analysis, and procurement
  • Working knowledge of bidding, public contract code, and purchasing policies
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Skills in training and leading others

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of purchasing standards and professional practices
  • Skills in written and oral communication, project management, and use of software tools
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement projects, work effectively in a team, and understand the value of competition

Physical Requirements:

This position requires oral and written communication, data analysis, logical thinking, and the ability to work in team settings. A valid California Driver's License is required.
