Boston University Productions is a professional, cost-recovery video production department producing programs for the university and limited external clients. This position is vital to the department's organization and efficiency, and the following are important requirements: superior organizational and communication skills, computer literacy, attention to detail, dedication, patience, ability to work in stressful situations (under tight deadlines), ability to juggle several assignments at one time, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.


As a member of BU Productions, the Department Administrator will work alongside a group of creative professionals who produce video content for university clients and a variety of Marketing and Communications websites. We seek a detail-oriented team player with business operations experience in a video production or communications-related environment. This position reports to the Executive Director of BU Productions and has a broad scope of duties, including administrative, financial, and operational functions and responsibilities.


The Department Administrator will assist in coordinating daily operational activity, implement project scheduling platforms to increase operational efficiency, calculate project costs for client billing, purchase equipment and supplies, and work closely with relevant university administrative staff for the onboarding and payment of our vendors and contractors. Our award-winning production team produces superior content for a wide range of projects and clients across campus.

Required Skills
  1. B.S./B.A. or equivalent experience in business/administration/operations is preferred and three to five years of experience in an administrative role.
  2. Familiarity with University systems and business operations experience in a video or communications-related field are a plus.
  3. This position requires a detail-oriented person with business operations experience.
  4. Understanding how a professional production department operates and the importance of providing excellent customer service is essential.
  5. Must be able to work independently and make sound decisions relative to administrative and operational responsibilities.
  6. A strong work ethic, the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, and superior organizational and communication skills are essential to functioning as an important member of this busy production team that produces content for high-level university clients.
  7. Familiarity with computer programs such as Word, Excel, and FileMaker for administrative work.
  8. Knowledge of the video production industry or a communications-related industry and how creative professionals provide high-quality products and services to their clients is helpful.
