The Department of Neurological Surgery has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinator to join their team.

The Sports Institute at UW Medicine is a national leader in innovation, research, education and advocacy in youth and adult sports safety. Our faculty are committed to advancing the science of sports health and safety. We seek to make sports accessible and safer as a public health imperative.

The Sports Institute seeks a full-time (100% FTE) Research Coordinator to support its research portfolio, including but not limited to research pertaining to sports safety, concussion, exercise prescription, mobile health, physical activity, and mental health.

POSITION COMPLEXITIES
This role requires strong communication and team-based skills, attention to detail, efficiency, seamless organization, and an ability to manage multiple projects involving sensitive data and diverse stakeholders.

IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY
This position involves working with protected health information across multiple research studies. The ideal candidate will have a high level of integrity and professionalism.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Research Director to coordinate research activities across The Sports Institute’s research portfolio.
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators and study staff to monitor research studies and ensure adherence to study procedures, HIPAA, and IRB requirements.
  • Recruit participants for research projects, including outreach and follow-up to adults and youth.
  • Develop relationships with communities and local stakeholders to facilitate recruitment opportunities.
  • Collect qualitative data via semi-structured interviews and focus groups, and quantitative data via surveys.
  • Assist with data analysis and coding.
  • Maintain a research database for qualitative and quantitative data collection and reporting.
  • Coordinate and participate in regular meetings with Principal Investigators, study team members, and external collaborators.
  • Manage IRB documentation including modifications, continuing review, and new submissions.
  • Monitor and communicate research milestones, proactively addressing technical or other challenges.
  • Coordinate study travel.
  • Contribute to The Sports Institute’s overall research strategy as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Two to three years minimum work experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with the IRB application process.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Professional maturity, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
  • Ability to work effectively with high-level external partners and collaborators.
  • Experience carrying out qualitative or quantitative research in a hospital or community setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and intermediate proficiency in Internet technologies and database systems.
  • Experience using REDCap or other online survey platforms.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in a health-related or research-related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of REDCap.
  • Experience with study design, statistical analysis, qualitative analysis, and/or UX/UI research.
  • Experience or interest in digital health tools.
  • Experience in athletics or sports participation.
