Summary

Fabricate various precision parts, models, and tools from raw materials using precision blueprints and all Sheet Metal shop equipment and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read work orders, follow production and sample assemblies, diagrams, part lists or receive verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed.

  • Set up sheet metal equipment and perform intricate close tolerance fabrication.

  • Ability to understand and read precision measuring equipment.

  • Measure parts to determine specified tolerance.

  • Read and interpret blue prints to fabricate complex parts.

  • Fabricate parts from raw materials.

  • File and buff parts to fit.

  • Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and spotface bolt holes in parts.

  • Position and align parts.

  • Lap and hone internal cylindrical surfaces.

  • Must have a knowledge of basic metal shop equipment and tools including drill press, power hack saw, surface grinders, shears, brakes, punch press, rollers, and all basic hand tooling operations.

  • Basic understanding of military and commercial workmanship standards

  • Must be willing and able to assume work assignments away from the facility for extended periods-of-time for site installations and be willing to work rotating shifts.

  • Ability to program and run basic and advanced CNC Punch Press operations.

  • Ability to proficiently operate additional machinery not normally associated with job specific expertise. (I.E. Machine operator with shear, brake, and punch press experience.)

  • Machinist Assistant as needed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 1+ years experience in sheet metal techniques, machining techniques, equipment, and procedures

  • High school diploma or general education degree.

  • Post high school vocational training or certification strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated manual dexterity, proven mechanical aptitude, ability to perform any and all advanced level sheet metal operations, ability to read and interpret Mechanical blueprints, ability to be sensitive to schedule, expert understanding of tools and specialized equipment (shears, brakes, punch press, rollers, etc.)

  • Must be able to work from parts lists, assembly drawings, engineering orders, engineering change orders, engineering logs, workmanship standards and manufacturing procedures / work instructions.

  • Basic computer skills are required for time reporting and work order processing.

  • Ability to perform work assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to figure percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Security Responsibilities

Must complywith all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must possess manual dexterity and excellent hand eye coordination.

  • Ability to stand or sit over 2/3 of the time or walk under 1/3 of the time.

  • Use hands to finger, handle or feel over 2/3 of the time.

  • Reach with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time.

  • Climb or balance on an approved safety ladder under 1/3 of the time.

  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl under 1/3 of the time.

  • Talk or hear 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds over 2/3 of the time.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds 1/3 to none of the time.

  • Must meet vision requirements in accordance with AWS certification

  • Shall have vision acuity of 20/30 or better in either eye, and shall be able to read the Jaeger No. 2 Eye Chart at 16 in (400 mm).

  • Corrected or uncorrected vision may be used to achieve eye test requirements. If corrected vision is required to pass eye test requirements, then that fact shall be notated on qualification records.

  • Vision shall be tested to these requirements at least every two years.
