Job Summary/Basic Function
NOTE: Must be a current WSU employee to be considered for this position.
This position will have a direct supervisory role over one fulltime employee and numerous hourly employees. A successful candidate in this position will install, manage, maintain, and monitor technology equipment for EAST computing. The candidate will work with faculty, staff, and students in the School of Computing and may be required to interact with other departments throughout daily activities. This position will manage student lab aides and work closely with department lab committee. The candidate will serve as the single point of contact for several critical systems to the School of Computing mission.
Job responsibilities include the following:
  • Create, update, and deploy operating system images to devices at Weber State's Davis, Ogden, Farmington, and other campuses
  • Manage network equipment pods consisting of managed switches, routers, and various virtual appliances
  • Supervision of hourly positions to assist in the technical support of the School of Computing
  • Supervision and oversight of department data and research centers
  • Securely maintain the computer and storage resources in a VMWare vCenter environment
  • Provision and automate new lab environments every semester based on faculty course requirements
  • Configure and isolate student lab environments using routing, VLAN, and firewall combinations as applicable
  • Manage network, server, and computer equipment obsolescence cycles
  • Procure equipment quotes and execute purchasing activities following Utah state procurement guidelines
  • Communicate with faculty, staff, and students to analyze and interpret technology needs and deliver solutions
  • Respond to and follow up on technical support tickets and requests in a timely manner
  • Evaluate new hardware and software for School of Computing use.
  • Programming & Scripting: Powershell, VBScript, Python, T-SQL, HTML, CSS, PHP.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in technology-related discipline (Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Management, or other)
  • 2 years of experience troubleshooting technology in a full time position with emphasis in two or more of the following technologies: Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft System Center, JAMF, Extron/AV Technologies, Virtualization software, Terminal Services
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with Git, PowerShell, ESXi
  • Higher Education experience
  • Prior experience working in a datacenter environment and/or research center
  • Prior experience working with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • At least one of the following industry certifications CompTIA Network+ CompTIA Security+ Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues
  • Must be able to work effectively and productively with minimal guidance or supervision
