Job Description: Manager of Security Systems at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)


Overview:

The Manager of Security Systems at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and enhancing the hospital's security technology infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Senior Systems and Technology Manager, this role involves managing the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of security systems and technologies across the organization. The Manager of Security Systems will ensure the reliability and effectiveness of critical security applications and systems, including access control and surveillance.

This role is both hands-on and strategic, involving direct interaction with end-users, technical support, and team management. The Manager will oversee the Badge ID program, supervise the Security Systems Applications Specialist and Access Control Identification Assistant, and ensure the seamless integration and operation of security technologies such as Honeywell Enterprise Building Integrator, Milestone Network Video, and HUGS Infant Protection systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Security Systems Management: Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of security systems and technologies. Ensure systems such as Honeywell Enterprise Building Integrator, Milestone Network Video, and HUGS Infant Protection are functioning optimally and are up to date.
  2. Badge ID Program Oversight: Manage the Badge ID program, including the issuance, updating, and management of ID badges. Develop and enforce procedures and policies to maintain program efficiency and security.
  3. Windows Server Maintenance & Access Control Software Installation: Manage the maintenance and updates of Windows servers that support security infrastructure. Oversee the installation and configuration of access control software to ensure system reliability and security.
  4. Milestone CCTV Application Management: Administer the Milestone Network Video system, ensuring video surveillance technology is up to date, fully operational, and well integrated with other security platforms.
  5. Security Systems Programming: Develop and maintain the programming of security systems, including configuring access control panels, setting up access levels, and ensuring all systems are programmed for optimal functionality.
  6. Team Leadership: Supervise and support the Security Systems Applications Specialist and Access Control Identification Assistant. Provide leadership, conduct performance evaluations, and ensure effective team collaboration and development.
  7. Technical Support: Provide advanced technical support for security systems and applications. Address and resolve complex issues related to security technology, including system malfunctions and integration challenges.
  8. Vendor and Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact for vendors and external partners. Facilitate technical discussions, negotiate contracts, and ensure that vendor services and products meet hospital requirements.
  9. Program Development: Design and implement programs and procedures for effective data management, system integration, and operational excellence within the security systems framework.
  10. Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs for staff on security systems applications, usage, and best practices. Ensure that all team members are proficient in the operation and management of security technologies.
  11. Project Management: Oversee technology deployment projects related to security systems. Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure successful implementation and integration.
  12. Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot and analyze complex issues with security systems. Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve problems promptly and effectively.
  13. Inventory and Asset Management: Maintain a detailed inventory of security hardware and software. Plan and manage asset deployment, replacement, and upgrades to ensure the continued effectiveness of security systems.
  14. Customer Service: Deliver exceptional customer service and serve as a representative of the security systems department. Address user concerns and provide solutions that enhance overall system effectiveness.
  15. Strategic Planning: Contribute to departmental goal setting and policy development. Participate in long-term planning and strategy for security systems and technology enhancements.

Qualifications:

Skills & Competencies:

  1. Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of security systems, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and Windows server management. Proficiency in managing and supporting security technologies, including the installation of access control software and Milestone CCTV applications.
  2. Leadership and Management: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team, including managing the Security Systems Applications Specialist and Access Control Identification Assistant. Strong skills in team coordination, performance management, and professional development.
  3. Problem-Solving: Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on resolving complex security system issues. Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  4. Vendor and Stakeholder Relations: Experience in managing relationships with vendors and external partners. Skilled in negotiating contracts and ensuring that services and products align with hospital needs.
  5. Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Willingness to work outside of regular hours if needed to address urgent security system issues.
  6. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant security regulations, standards, and best practices. Knowledge of City and State Codes, NFPA Standards, and OSHA Regulations is desirable.

Working Conditions:

Environment: Fast-paced, high-demand setting with a focus on critical security systems operations.

On-Call: May be required to be on-call and provide support for security systems outside of regular business hours.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or bachelor's degree in computer science, Security Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience: 5-7 years of experience in security systems management, including hands-on experience with security technology and team leadership. Experience in large-scale or complex security environments is highly desirable.
