WHO WE ARE
The Office of the County Attorney provides legal advice and representation to all County departments, agencies, instrumentalities, boards and commissions, including the County Council, and all their employees. A full description of the Office’s work is available here .
The Office also provides legal defense for cases involving Montgomery County and other governmental entities which participate in the Montgomery County Self-Insurance Program (including the Board of Education for Montgomery County, Montgomery College, and the Housing Opportunities Commission) and all their employees.
Attorneys in Division of Labor Relations and Public Safety provide legal advice and represent Montgomery County Government in all labor and personnel matters. They also serve as general counsel for the following County agencies: Montgomery Fire and Rescue Services, Office of Human Resources, Office of Labor Relations, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and the Police Department and its Internal Affairs Division.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Montgomery County Government-Office of the County Attorney is currently recruiting for an experienced full-time attorney for its Division of Labor Relations and Public Safety.
These positions may be underfilled at the following levels:
- Assistant County Attorney I, Grade N24
- Assistant County Attorney II, Grade N27
- Assistant County Attorney III, Grade N32
Although you could be called upon to handle any matter assigned to the Division, the Office anticipates that you would act as general counsel and provide legal advice on labor and employment matters.
If Filled as an Assistant County Attorney I, Grade N24:
Education: Graduation from an accredited university school of law.
Experience: One (1) year of post-degree experience as a law clerk or in a similar capacity.
Equivalency: None.
Membership in the Maryland State Bar. Note: There will be no substitutions for this section.
If Filled as an Assistant County Attorney II, Grade N27:
Education: Graduation from an accredited university school of law.
Experience: Two (2) years of post-degree experience as a law clerk or in a similar capacity.
Equivalency: None.
Membership in the Maryland State Bar. Note: There will be no substitutions for this section.
If Filled as an Assistant County Attorney III, Grade N32:
Education: Graduation from an accredited university school of law.
Experience: Four (4) years of post-degree experience as a law clerk or in a similar capacity.
Equivalency: None.
Membership in the Maryland State Bar. Note: There will be no substitutions for this section.
All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified," placed on the Referred List, and may be considered for interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are same grade or higher will be placed on the Referred List as a "Transfer" candidate and may be considered for interview.
Interview Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Employee-Labor relations experience
- Union negotiation experience
- Employment law experience.
