Position Summary
The Preconstruction Services position is responsible for managing the electrical budget and estimating process from beginning to end and producing a comprehensive electrical estimate for various type of commercial and industrial projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate requests for budgets/estimates.
  • Ensure timely completion of budgets/estimates.
  • Read all bid documents, specifications and drawings from all trades as applies to own work.
  • Efficient with take-offs, electronically or manually. Experience with Accubid and/or LiveCount Estimating Software, and/or specific budget estimate spreadsheets.
  • Prepare bids either from a narrative, conceptual stage, design-assist or plans and specifications.
  • Develop one-line diagrams for the basis of budget/estimate and to present to the client.
  • Develop lighting lay-outs for the basis of budget/estimate and to present to the client.
  • Overlay drawings for any changes in scope in Bluebeam or LiveCount.
  • Analyze bids and propose value engineer cost-saving ideas.
  • Provide leadership, direction, train and mentor Junior Estimators, Estimators and work well with all team members.
  • Reviews estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Be familiar with local and national codes.
  • Review vendors bill of materials and subcontractors scope letters for accuracy.
  • Prepares cost in Accubid by recapitulating material, labor, indirect labor, subcontractors, general expense, equipment rental, quoted material, bid breakdowns, and final pricing.
  • Prepare proposal letters and bid forms.
  • Participate in client scope review meetings.
  • Manage estimating processes and timelines to meet company objectives, both short and long term.
  • Perform necessary research to produce accurate, complete and competitive pricing.
  • Communicate with customers to define the project scope, address deficiencies, negotiate pricing and build relationships.
  • Prepare and present completed estimating packages to company executives and senior management.
  • Continuously follow up on all bid projects and accurately forecast future awards/probabilities.
  • Properly transfer awarded projects to Operations team and perform buyouts when necessary.
  • Follow estimating procedures and guidelines.
  • Prepares reports as needed.
  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective completion of projects.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in related field preferred, but not required.
  • 5-8 years of experience in budget / estimating role on large multi-million-dollar commercial projects.
  • experience with a focus in large multi-million-dollar commercial projects.
  • Experience with Accubid.
  • Experience with Live Count Software a plus

  1. Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing reaching, bending crawling, standing, or stretching.

  3. Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
  4. Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  5. May require travel.
  6. Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  7. Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  8. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  9. Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
  10. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  11. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  12. This position requires travel by vehicle, the ability to work and walk at construction sites during all stages, in all types of weather conditions.
  13. Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
