What you will do

In this vital role, the Regional Director Security, North America West reports to the Executive Director Global Security, North America in the Global Security (GS) organization. The Regional Director Security, North America West will be based at our Thousand Oaks Headquarters (HQ) site and is responsible for implementing and driving the Global Security strategy in the North America West region. Central to this strategy is providing security leadership, coordination, and oversight of Amgen’s Corporate HQ site as well as other company-owned and operated facilities in their region.

Key areas of responsibility include asset protection (employees, contract workers, physical sites, & company reputation), site safety and security leadership, contract guard force management, access control, disaster preparedness, incident response, and incident management planning and execution, workplace violence, and crime prevention.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Manage and supervise day-to-day security operations at the Thousand Oaks (TO) HQ complex, including supervision of proprietary and contract worker (CW) guard force personnel.
  2. Liaison with various business function leads, including site, Facilities, Engineering, HR, Legal, Occ Health, Operations, R&D leaders at the sites within the area of responsibility.
  3. Provide onsite leadership for site-based emergencies and crisis events for all North America West sites and locations.
  4. Direct and oversee the implementation of innovative security operational policies and procedures.
  5. Oversee the operational functionality of physical and electronic security systems.
  6. Conduct regular site risk & vulnerability assessments and develop actionable response plans.
  7. Develop an effective and innovative guard force training program.
  8. Develop, update, and maintain site security plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  9. Identify, assess, and implement mitigation strategies to counter threats to safety and security.
  10. Project manage planned new construction and renovated spaces from a security perspective.
  11. Ensure safety of CEO Staff, Board members, and VIPs visiting the HQ campus.
  12. Manage security plans for meetings and special events.
  13. Conduct periodic site-specific crime prevention surveys.
  14. Coordinate at-risk employee terminations with Human Resources.
  15. Select, train, and manage contract workers (CW’s) and consultants.
  16. Conduct and manage internal and external investigations.
  17. Conduct employee awareness training as needed.

What we expect of you

The professional we seek will have the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Doctorate degree and 4 years of Corporate Security experience
  2. Master’s degree and 8 years of Corporate Security experience
  3. Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Corporate Security experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree & a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive security experience.
  2. Prior supervisory law enforcement experience at the Federal, State, or Local level or military police background preferred.
  3. Strong proficiency with security systems.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  5. Requires approximately 20% travel.
