Overview
Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company, is seeking an experienced Senior FPGA/Firmware engineer in its Oak Ridge, TN Facility. We are proud to be a trusted provider of advanced radiation measurement systems and X-ray technologies for ports, borders, military, high-threat facilities and critical infrastructure all over the world. Be a part of our mission to provide our customers with best-in-class cargo and vehicle screening systems and services so they can combat terrorism, trade fraud, drug and weapon smuggling, and illegal immigration.
Responsible for FPGA and Firmware development for a range of radiation detection sensors and single board computer (SBC) platforms. This position will work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team to implement electronic designs containing embedded microcontrollers and field programmable gate arrays. This is envisioned as a technical role which assists in development from concept/requirements phase to production/sustainment phase. The position will help in the development of algorithms and transition into working hardware solutions for our radiation detection systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform as an individual contributor within a small multidisciplinary team environment to successfully produce new radiation detection systems and subassemblies.
- Contribute to requirements and specifications capture for new electronic board assemblies.
- Develop electronics designs from concept through to working finished products. Development will consist of activities such as component selection, schematic capture, generating firmware for embedded microcontrollers, generating VHDL for FPGAs, simulation and test to verify performance, algorithm development, creation of design documentation, and production support.
- It is a goal that this position become familiar with the DSP algorithms used to process radiation detection signals within FPGAs.
- It is a goal that this position will implement embedded microcontroller firmware used in radiation detection sensors and on Linux OS SBC that serve as system controllers.

- Experience developing firmware in C/C++ is required and experience developing for Atmel embedded microcontrollers using Atmel Studio is highly desired.
- Experience developing VHDL for FPGAs is required. Experience with Lattice family of FPGAs is highly desired.
- Experience using schematic capture tools like Circuit Studio or Altium is highly desired.
- Experience developing algorithms in Matlab or Python for implementation within microcontrollers and FPGAs is highly desired.
- Familiarity with electronics communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, RS422, Ethernet, etc is required.
- Experience with radiation detection instrumentation is highly desired.
- Ability to prioritize and organize daily activities to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently is required.
