The Role

The Vice President of Finance for the Material Solutions Group (MSG) plays an integral role as a strategic business partner to the President of MSG. This position demands collaboration with teams across the United States, France, and China, focusing on strategic initiatives, manufacturing excellence, capital allocation, and performance measurement. The VP will drive MSG's global financial resources, while overseeing forecasts, maintaining a robust financial controls, mentoring accounting staff, and advancing efficient information systems. The position requires integrating into a culture that values innovation, integrity, and customer focus, while continuously improving financial practices and technological proficiency. This role is designed for a hands-on leader who excels in manufacturing finance, cost management, and leveraging advanced reporting tools like Hyperion to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the President of the Material Solutions Group (MSG), the VP, Finance is a member of the MSG global senior leadership team working collaboratively, as a trusted advisor, with local teams in the United States, France and China. In this role, the VP is expected to be the President's go-to advisor on matters involving strategic alternatives, tactical initiatives, capital allocation, performance measurement and the cause-and- effect relationships between dynamic variables and business performance.
  • Drive manufacturing excellence by leveraging in-depth expertise in standard costing practices, implementing robust cost control measures, and spearheading continuous cost improvement initiatives to optimize operational efficiency and enhance profitability.
  • Develop and implement cost containment strategies, leveraging expertise in Hyperion and Power BI for accurate and insightful reporting. Continuously assess and refine cost structures to achieve ongoing cost improvement and support global growth.
  • Utilize Hyperion, Oracle and Power BI to provide detailed and actionable financial reports, helping senior leadership understand the relationship between manufacturing activities, cost drivers, and overall performance. Offer practical recommendations to optimize financial outcomes and business performance.
  • The VP is a steward of MSG global resources, a partner in determining its strategic direction, a proactive leader and manager delivering operational excellence in finance and related activities, and an influencer driving process and system enhancements throughout the organization.
  • The VP is responsible for aligning the MSG business, finance and capital allocation strategies to drive global growth while sustaining its strong profit and cash flow performance. He or she provides strategic thinking and guidance on day-to-day business performance, sound working capital management, mergers and acquisitions, and other initiatives. The VP offers thoughtful, practical ideas to strategically leverage MSG's strong balance sheet and cash flow capacity. He or she is responsible for the effective communication of financial forecasts and actual results to the senior leadership team with a priority on deepening their understanding of cause-and-effect relationships between business dynamics and performance outcomes in an increasingly complex business environment.
  • As steward of MSG's global financial and other business resources, the VP is primarily responsible for maintaining a control environment that protects vital assets while effectively balancing risks and costs. The VP is expected to model an appropriate tone at the top regarding integrity and reliability of financial information, to monitor and maintain compliance with laws and regulations, and to advance financial best practices across the global organization.
  • The VP leads and manages MSG's accounting staff to consistently deliver operational excellence and efficiency across all aspects of its finance, accounting and reporting functions.
  • The VP is a key influencer in advancing efficient, effective information systems and processes across MSG's global footprint. The VP exemplifies and promotes the use of technology for diagnostic, analytical and predictive benefit. Continuous improvement in technological proficiency is essential as the MSG strives to deliver best-in-class customer service internally and externally.

About You

Experience / Knowledge / Skills Requirements / Behavior s

The VP will be a highly talented financial executive with extensive experience in a growing and complex business environment. Candidates should bring 15+ years of progressive experience in the financial field, including successful managerial and leadership roles in respected businesses. Prior experience in a manufacturing/industrial based business is required. Candidates must be comfortable in a hands-on, entrepreneurial and roll up your sleeves environment, while also being capable of leading growth and evolution of the finance organization as Material Solutions itself grows.

Specifically, candidates must exhibit the following characteristics and experiences:

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in Accounting; MBA attractive; CPA preferred; combination MBA/CPA a plus
  • A proactive, hands-on strategist, able to transition readily from strategic thought to action.
  • Substantive evidence of having performed as an effective business partner with ranking executives of a complex organization.
  • Demonstrating excellence in managing the finance, accounting, planning and forecasting, control and compliance, and financial reporting functions in a multinational organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting strategic vision into an operational model.
  • A hands-on, team-first leader with the integrity, passion and vision to perform in a dynamic changing environment while earning and retaining the respect and trust of others.
  • A proven track record of effective performance as a member of executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain senior executive relationships both internally and externally.
