As the regulatory environment for Privacy expands, it is expected that 95% of the globe’s citizens will be protected by a Privacy law within the next two years. When a patron visits an open kitchen restaurant, there is an immediate sense of trust. You can see the chef and crew preparing your food and plating it. PayPal has in essence created this same environment for its customers in a safe, secure manner. In today’s world, Privacy is top of mind. Citizens around the world are learning how big tech has used their data to advance individual analytics and have become aware of their personal data being sold by many companies. It all happens behind a curtain of obscurity. PayPal is changing all of that with one goal in mind: be transparent with the customer. PayPal’s customers now have a central location where they can securely sign in and understand what type of data PayPal has collected. Through navigating through additional security layers, the customer can also see how that data is being replicated across the PayPal enterprise, with explanations on why and how the data is being used. They provide a list of benefits the customer has experienced. With this knowledge the customer can also select what benefits they want to be a part of.

Your way to impact:

You will be working as a software engineer to implement the next generation of privacy applications to protect the data privacy of PayPal’s users. At the same time, you will learn about the Privacy domain knowledge.

Your day to day:

  • Design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications, document and test systems, modify as appropriate.
  • Own implementation of a module/application/product
  • Develop efficient, elegant, clean code with no unnecessary complication or abstraction
  • Deliver code in an agile team environment - you will operate in the bi-weekly scrum model
  • Collaborate with other engineers, architects, and cross-vertical team
  • Build new APIs to enhance the portfolio of PayPal’s one of the most popular services.
  • Build and take operational responsibility of Java services that serve millions of users
  • Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.
  • Drive integration efforts and lead critical workstreams of strategic initiatives sponsored by senior executives

What do you need to bring:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese
  • Experience with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, and software design.
  • You have a passion for software development and technology.
  • Strong debugging and analytical skills using the "Scientific Method" to dig into problems is something you love to do.
  • Familiarity with Java, Spring framework, Spring boot required.
  • Good understanding of web services and related standards like REST/JSON and gRPC
  • Experience with Object-Oriented programming and concepts required.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure/cloud technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) required.
  • Experience with GitOps preferred. Demonstrable knowledge of Terraform, Jenkins, artifactory, a strong plus.
  • Experience with Oauth2, Open ID Connect preferred
  • You are comfortable using Linux command line.
  • You strive to work in a dynamic, changing environment, with large scale applications across the stack.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus 2 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
