Our Space Mobility program is looking for experienced personnel to join their ground system team as a ground software engineer. We are a passionate group developing mobility missions that will impact the history of space exploration! You will work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, contributing innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.
As a Ground Software Engineer, you will help build, integrate, and test the software required for the Space Mobility Mission Operations Center used to fly on-orbit vehicles. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers and mission operators, you will work closely with space vehicle and ground system teams. You will be responsible for developing, testing and deploying software that will enable our solutions to perform mission-critical functions, including mission activity planning and scheduling, commanding and on-orbit operations, telemetry monitoring and display, operational communications, mission visualization, flight/ground system integration/testing, and operations training.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Design, implement, test, verify and deploy mission operations software systems, ensuring the success of the overall Ground Data System (hardware/software) supporting Blue Origin space mission operations.
- Perform trade studies to determine whether to develop software tools in-house, subcontract work to develop tools, or adapt or purchase existing software to perform a particular function.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers representing flight vehicle systems, mission control infrastructure, operations disciplines and customers to define software requirements, architectures, and designs.
- Develop rapid prototypes to prove out concepts and quantify technical risks.
- Coordinate with mission control infrastructure and mission system engineers to plan, develop, and lead system verification and qualification, to ensure software products that meet system requirements and safety-critical standards.
- Produce technical documentation for software architecture, design, verification plans, user manual and training material.
- Follow software development processes that meet Blue Origin and customer-required standards to ensure software safety and reliability.
- Support frequent update cycles in support of pre-flight testing, mission validation exercises and operations training events.
- Support mission control software operations responsibilities (maintenance, flaw correction, enhancements) during operator training; ground data system verification, validation, and certification; spacecraft integration; and flight.
- Integrate software components, create, and run unit-level and system-level tests, validate using Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop simulators, and release certified code.
- Contribute to production of technical documentation for software design, verification plans, user manuals and training material.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. or higher degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of software development experience.
- Experience in software engineering over the course of the full lifecycle of software development, including system design and analysis, requirement capture and development, software implementation and verification, system integration, qualification, and release.
- Experience in software build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment.
- Demonstrated software development skills in multiple software languages, with ability to implement in the language most appropriate to the problem-domain.
- Familiarity with Linux environment and comfortable with basic Unix system administration activities.
- Highly organized team player with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness from their previous assignments.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and developing ground software for space flight operations.
- Experience developing complex application in Python.
- Experience with REST, Kafka, GRPC.
- Experience with NoSQL datastore technologies.
- Experience in web development and/or database development and interfaces.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and Cloud Technologies.
- Experience developing software systems for the following applications and technologies:
- Telemetry data processing, management, display and archival.
- Fault monitoring and alarm notification systems.
- Human command interfaces, command sequencers.
- Control and scheduling of ground-based tracking and communications stations.
- Ground based orbit determination and navigation.
- Mission and activity planning and scheduling and timeline display for space missions.
- Electronic, distributed team procedure authoring and execution.
- Space mission visualization, including virtual reality systems.
- Experience with spacecraft subsystems and associated subsystem software.
Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $141,480-$198,072.
Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $129,690-$181,566.
