Job Description
The Editorial and Content Manager is a highly collaborative leader with an operational focus, responsible for fostering, systematizing, and socializing a steady pipeline of content – both raw and packaged – across the organization. They work closely with colleagues in programmatic divisions, and across other global Oxfam offices to identify, source, and develop content packages that effectively communicate Oxfam’s work, values, outputs, and impact. They are highly skilled at systematizing workflows, influencing others to support and realize the goals of the organization, and are proficient at packaging and repackaging content for a wide range of audiences and channels, and are a master of the craft of editing written content.
The Editorial and Content Manager will:
- Identify compelling storylines to inform a strategic agenda for all content gathering.
- Define and steward a compelling and consistent public voice and editorial standards for the organization.
- Provide standards and an operational framework for content development for all public channels. This includes direct supervision of all writers, editors, copy writers, and proofreaders, as well as direction to others in branded content development functions.
- Contribute to and support an overarching creative strategy, and content strategy for Oxfam America web and digital platforms.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Sourcing
- Create an annual content-gathering/story plan and manage all content gathering efforts (stories, film, and photography) undertaken by Oxfam America staff and freelancers domestically and internationally, in coordination with Oxfam International (OI) and global affiliates and offices.
- Serve on the Oxfam International Global Content Group, providing strategic and operational direction on global content standards, content gathering initiatives, and processes.
- Work closely with members of programmatic, advocacy, and fundraising teams to identify and socialize areas of work for content gathering and production.
- Work across departments (Knowledge 4 Impact, Resource Development) and with the global Oxfam confederation to identify content that demonstrates Oxfam’s impact, both short-and long-term; systematize and socialize processes for obtaining content and stories that demonstrate impact.
- Manage and track Oxfam America’s contributions to Oxfam’s global digital asset management system (“Inuru”), ensuring quality and accuracy of content and data for global sharing and use, training and supporting staff and interns in uploading and applying data.
Editorial Oversight & Editing
- Define and socialize editorial style and standards for public-facing communications; serve as editorial advisor for content producers.
- Develop, and support development of messaging to help meet the organization’s media, supporter engagement, advocacy, and fundraising efforts.
- Edit written work of staff and freelance writers.
- Work with Senior Digital Content Strategist and Creative Director to develop content strategy for digital platforms.
- Oversee and resource updating of key website pages and articles, prioritizing with insights from Senior Content Strategist.
Managerial
- Supervise editorial staff in their work planning, performance management, and professional development.
- Manage all content-gathering efforts for Public Engagement.
- Oversee contracts and manage relationships with freelance photographers, videographers, writers, translators, and editors.
- Serve as a member of the Public Engagement management team to establish division goals, strategies, priorities, and performance metrics, allocate resources, resolve problems as they arise, and improve systems and ways of working to maximize efficiency and accountability.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Strong writing and editing background with 7+ years of experience in editorial roles.
- Demonstrated experience in managing, leading and coaching a team, preferably in a union environment, and external partners. Experience providing editorial direction.
- Highly motivated and a natural problem-solver.
- Great communications skills both verbally and written.
- Able to communicate and present effectively to a diverse audience at varying levels within the organization.
- Demonstrated skill in conceptualizing and developing a wide range of content (website marketing copy, ad copy, website explainers, stories and articles, fundraising materials, social media, etc.) tailored to specific audiences, across a range of subjects and channels, including but not limited to websites, social media, and print.
- Understanding of the attitudes and behaviors of target customers, using data insights to inform and refine content development.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing external realities, news cycles, and internal organizational needs and demonstrate flexibility as needed.
- Comfortable working with competing priorities and an ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
- A track record of developing processes for content sourcing and development.
- Demonstrated skill in collaborating with, influencing, and motivating peers across teams to support initiatives and deliver on shared goals.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to problem-solve and improve processes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with web analytics tools, social media marketing applications, and leading social media monitoring platforms.
- Experience with project management software, such as Asana, SmartSheet, ClickUp or similar.

Salary Range - $112,000 - 117,000
