Hours: Full Time

Think of your favorite book from childhood. Got it? Great. Now, that warm, joyful feeling you have right now—that’s what we do . Literati is a modern children’s book company focused on building reading skills so kids can grow to be their best selves. We make it easy to find books kids love through school book fairs and book clubs using a unique mix of expert curation and data science. We’re on a mission to help parents ignite a love of learning and a love of life.

As a DevOps Lead, you will own our cloud infrastructure and developer tooling strategy. You’ll assist other engineers with owning their own features from end-to-end through well-defined processes and templates while setting the standard for efficient, agile, and maintainable infrastructure, which helps us to respond rapidly to changing business needs while keeping costs low.

To be equitable to all Literatians, we have set compensation and a non-negotiation policy- we don't think a person’s pay should be determined by how comfortable they are with negotiation. As a result, we like to be transparent and up-front about the compensation. When we make an offer, we can provide options so that employees can choose between compensation packages that prioritize salary or equity. The salary band for this role will be between $140,000 - $160,000 depending on experience.

About You

  • 5 years experience in DevOps, including designing and scaling infrastructure for small- to medium-sized startups
  • Expert-level skill with Kubernetes, Docker, and related technologies
  • Significant experience with cloud hosting (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
  • Expertise with hosting and deployment of the full web stack (DNS, SSL, NAT, load balancing, application servers, databases)
  • Strong skills in mentorship, documentation, and system-building

WE’D LOVE TO SEE

  • Experience with terraform, helm, gitops and infrastructure-as-code
  • Competency with python or similar scripting languages
  • Skill with database administration, performance tuning, and query optimization

About The Role

As the DevOps Lead at Literati, you will be the resident expert on all things related to cloud hosting, deployment, and infrastructure. You will help to craft and define our strategy to efficiently serve customers, keep costs down, and retain the ability to respond quickly to changing business needs. You will act as a mentor and coach to other engineers at Literati, helping them to take end-to-end ownership of the features they build, including monitoring and on-call responses. You will help with tooling, scripting, and automation to make developers more productive. While other engineers will have responsibility for on-call escalations for most issues, you will be part of a team which forms the “escalation of last resort” for service outages.

Literati’s current stack (which you will help to define and evolve) includes terraform-driven provisioning in GCP, helm-driven kubernetes configuration for services, a mix of Django, nodejs, and wordpress application servers, and postgres databases in cloud SQL. We monitor using DataDog, Sentry, cloud logging, and Jira.
