Job Requirements / Description

Minimum Requirements

  • 6+ years of design experience in commercial / industrial / other complex technical projects
  • 7+ years of Mission Critical facility design experience
  • 3+ years of large-scale Data Center facility design experience
  • 10+ years of experience directly related to data center design, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance
  • Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standards including IBC or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Solid working proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite
  • Direct experience with design or construction administration of a variety of electrical distribution systems ranging from low voltage to high voltage
  • Direct experience with delivering modular data centers design projects, including procurement and commissioning of facilities
  • Functional knowledge of industry standards, environmental codes, building codes and safety standards including International Building Code
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers, develop basic business case financial projections and create performance metrics
  • Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from building code and construction change orders
  • Working Knowledge of Sharepoint, BIM/Revit, Salesforce and Procore

Responsibilities

  • This unique vantage point allows the Design Managers to maintain a close connection with project details and drive project outcomes
  • You will have impact on the design direction and ability to improve design delivery for an entire region, while establishing design procedures and protocols for the development of future systems
  • Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs across Americas within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality
  • Able to influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program wide design changes
  • Manage escalations from the design team and collaborate with procurement, construction and external consultants
  • Effectively communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including the creation, tracking & reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality throughout the lifecycle of the project
  • Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce contract change orders without negative impacts on quality or reliability
  • Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, reducing and automating manual work and hand-offs, identifying and implementing best practices across the business, and minimizing process variability through standardization and automation
  • Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe
  • Ability to motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline-driven environment
  • Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants
  • Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%
