The Tanker Port Engineer is responsible for overseeing day to day technical and maintenance issues pertaining to a ship or group of USMMI tankers. The Port Engineer work location is at the USMMI office in Norfolk, Virginia. The Port Engineer performs periodic travel to ports and ship repair sites.
The Port Engineer is responsible for maintaining ships and collaborates with the ship's crew and the USMMI purchasing team to accomplish his objectives. The Port Engineer has budgetary & expense approval for the purpose of ship maintenance, engineering, spare parts and repairs.

Travel Requirements:
Extensive travel (including foreign travel and travel in cars, boats, ships, and airplanes) will be required to attend to shipyard maintenance, to ride vessels or visit vessels for quality assurance and general management of vessel and crews, and on short notice for casualties, to conduct investigations and to protect the company's reputation, or as directed by management.

Operations Setting: Typically, the employee must be able to Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Push/Pull, Kneel, Squat, Reaching and Twisting. Also, need the ability to consistently be able to lift 10lb - 100lb utilizing Folding Hand Truck & Dolly, Rolling Utility Carts or Single Hand Trucks (70 - 100%) of time.

The Tanker Port Engineer is responsible for overseeing day to day technical and maintenance issues pertaining to a ship or group of USMMI tankers. The Port Engineer work location is at the USMMI office in Norfolk, Virginia. The Port Engineer performs periodic travel to ports and ship repair sites.
The Port Engineer is responsible for maintaining ships and collaborates with the ship's crew and the USMMI purchasing team to accomplish his objectives. The Port Engineer has budgetary & expense approval for the purpose of ship maintenance, engineering, spare parts and repairs.
Key Responsibilities :
- Be an advocate for shipboard safety, the company safety culture and actively support timely attention to any safety issue.
- Supervise and actively participate in the evaluation and approval of voyage repairs, ship submitted requisitions, requisitioning of maintenance/repair services.
- Actively assist in planning and executing maintenance, repairs, classification surveys (ABS or Lloyds Register), regulatory inspections (USCG), equipment upgrades and similar tasks.
- Develop work specifications for voyage / emergency repairs.
- Develop intermediate/special survey/dry-dock specifications and oversee all aspects of successful completion of dry-docking and associated surveys including on site supervision.
- Provide oversight for vessel Masters and Chief Engineers to ensure that missions/voyages are efficiently and safely performed in accordance with contract requirements.
- Recommend appointment of personnel for senior positions of Master and Chief Engineer. Ensure career support of junior officers is performed.
- Actively coordinating with terminals, vendors and other functions to service the vessel with timely attention and efficiency.
- Act as the maintenance/readiness point of contact with the customer/charterer.
- Responsible for internal coordination of engineering matters to ensure contract or charter party compliance and customer satisfaction.
- Review the vessel safety committee meeting minutes and initiate timely follow-up of issues identified.
- Ensure operations are carried out and conflicts/issues are addressed in accordance with USMMI ISM procedures.
- Support the Program Manager in handling and closing out claims pertaining to P&I or Hull Machinery insurance matters.
- Act on continuous improvement initiatives with timely attention and completion in a cost-efficient manner.
- Participate in internal audit or vetting as directed by the Program Manager.
- Perform other position related duties as specified by management.

- Responsible for meeting the requirements and deadlines in preparation of shipyard specifications, selection of vendors, and optimal utilization of ship's force during the shipyard period
Education and Experience
The successful, applicant must meet one of the following experience criteria.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required. Degree in Marine Engineering logistics or equivalent degree is required.
- USCG License or equivalent international standard as Chief Engineer
- Experience sailing on Tankers or fulfilling the role of Port Engineer for a Tanker Management Company.
- Equivalent experience & service aboard either MSC, USN or commercial vessels in a Supervisory position or service ashore in a Supervisory position overseeing vessel operations within the Maritime Industry or Government Service.
- Equivalent experience & service with a classification of Flag State authority with direct exposure to vessel regulatory compliance.
- Project management experience and vessel management experience
- Must be a U.S, Citizen
- Must be able to obtain a Secret level security clearance from the Defense Security Service (DSS).
- Random drug testing required.
- Computer literacy in PC and Marine Management Software systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills required for conducting day to day business
- Ability to communicate effectively in variety of forums, internal and external.
