Job Summary

The Research Analyst, High Yield is responsible for analyzing and recommending the purchase and sale of public high yield grade corporate bonds and related securities that contribute to incremental outperformance within the analyst’s assigned industries. The analyst is responsible for monitoring existing investments, managing credit risk, making industry recommendations, and maintaining relative weighting and relative value recommendations within the high yield credit market. Success in this role requires working well in a team environment, effectively prioritizing individual workflow and market-driven demands, and generating consistent, superior performance.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform independent, fundamental credit analysis to develop a strong understanding of the issuers within the analyst’s assigned industries.
  • Analyze company financial statements from a bondholder’s perspective to develop an opinion of the company’s operational strengths, weaknesses, and directional outlook.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate credit worthiness.
  • Prepare detailed credit reports and provide relative value opinions, which lead to portfolio recommendations.
  • Play an active role in managing credit risk in assigned industries/sectors by monitoring existing holdings and portfolio weightings.
  • Continuous improvement in communication skills, both written and verbal, with the goal of getting issuer/industry/trade recommendations implemented into portfolios.
  • Proactively and timely communicate relevant information to director and portfolio managers.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on credit analysis and investment strategies.
  • Utilize all available technological resources to maximize efficiency.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant investment experience in corporate credit risk evaluation or related area.
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in finance, business, or other relevant subject area.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting, finance, and corporate strategy.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and eagerness to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong technical skills, including use of Microsoft Office software, Bloomberg and/or Aladdin.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to disseminate information concisely and confidently.
  • Ability to work effectively alone, and within various team structures.

Preferred:

  • Progress toward or completion of CFA designation, strongly preferred.
  • Master of Business Administration, Finance, or other advanced degree in relevant field, with money management or applied securities experience.

Pay Transparency

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $115,224.00 - $155,891.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
