Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union (BMU), and the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Operation Programs and Services (OPS), Sustainability and student government.
Associated Students is now hiring for the position of Student Marketing Assistant Lead - Government Affairs This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $16.81 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico and maintain at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student) throughout the course of employment.

SUMMARY
Under the direction of the AS Marketing and Design Department (ASMD), this position is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing content marketing strategies and promotional services for the business and service programs of the Associated Students, including social media, web management, outreach, and marketing planning and creation.
This position will work 15-20 hours per week. Applicants interested in this role MUST be available for mandatory training in Chico beginning Monday, January 13. Training will be Monday-Friday January 13-17.
TYPICAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works with the ASMD marketing team to develop and manage social media promotions for the Associated Students (AS) social media channels. Collaborates and implements content calendar for social channels and attend events for social media coverage.
    • Student Marketing Leads may be assigned to focus on one of the following areas:
      • Social Media Management (Government Affairs + AS Involvement Programs)
      • Social Media Management (Recreation + Wellness Programs)
      • Web Management (Content + Media)
    • Act as a "spokesperson" for online promotions. Must be comfortable with the idea of being in front of a camera.
    • Assist, develop and coordinate promotions for AS events and initiatives through comprehensive content marketing plans using social media platforms and other campus platforms, such as: CatsConnect, campus and student announcements, text notifications, updates for AS website, calendar entries, blog posts, and mentions in The Latest.
    • Collaborates with the ASMD design team to create compelling graphics for social media and other marketing campaigns.
    • Assists in the development and implementation of web content for the AS website.
    • Works directly with various departments and programs in developing and coordinating marketing plans and promotions.
    • Assists other Marketing Assistants with developing content and marketing plans.
    • Assist in the scheduling and planning of weekly team staff meetings.
    • Occasionally develops and conducts focus groups.
    • Attend staff meetings as directed.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

Work is performed in an office environment, continuous contact with staff, campus community and public.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; verbal communication, use of office equipment including computers, telephones, copiers and fax. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of:
  • Social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
  • Social media management tools such as Hootsuite or Buffer. Iconosquare knowledge a plus.
  • Basic graphic design tools such as Canva.
Ability to:
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Develop and coordinate marketing and promotion strategies.
  • Write copy to meet marketing objectives with excellent grammar and punctuation.
  • Use computer and applicable software for word processing and basic graphic design.
  • Develop and schedule social media campaigns for Facebook and Instagram.
  • Track analytics across communication channels.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community, co-workers, public, and those contacted during the course of work.
  • Work independently, sometimes with minimal supervision.
  • Work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
Requirements
Experience:
  • Majoring in Marketing, Journalism/Public Relations, Communications/New Media, Graphic Design, Video Production, or any other relevant field preferred.
  • Photography experience preferred.
Education:
  • Currently enrolled in 6 units for undergraduate or 4 units for graduate at California State University, Chico required.
  • Previous experience on the AS Marketing team OR successful completion or concurrent enrollment in one of the following courses preferred:
    • MKTG 371: Consumer Behavior
    • JOUR 260W: Writing for Mass Media
    • MADT 218: Social Media Storytelling
