Summary
The Financial Analyst will be instrumental in analyzing, forecasting, and reporting the business. This position reports to the Director of Finance and supports the finance team by providing business insights, budgeting, developing KPI’s, scorecards and dashboards. In addition, this position will have an active role in the month end close process by analyzing revenue and expense accounts, preparing and/or recommending adjusting entries or accruals as necessary, and analyzing variances to budget and forecast.
What You Will Do
- Execute detailed ad hoc analysis, trending, forecasting, and profitability analysis
- Collect and analyze data from multiple sources including Oracle (General Ledger), Salesforce (CRM), Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets and other sources
- Support Executive and Finance leadership through the budgeting process by managing planning templates, trend analysis, and budgeting assumptions; continue monitoring budgets and assist with expense accruals throughout the year
- Increase sales performance viability for the sales staff by measuring success through KPI development and dashboard reporting
- Improve financial status by analyzing results, monitoring variances, identifying trends and recommending actions to management
- Support the weekly Flash and monthly revenue and expense forecast by department
- Partner with sales management to develop and track quarterly goals and incentive programs
- Assist with month-end sales commissions reporting
- Perform profitability analysis and tracking for advertising and finance leadership
- Increases productivity by developing automated reporting/forecasting tools
- Knowledge of Oracle financial reporting is a plus
What You Will Bring
- Strong analytical (quantitative as well as qualitative) skills including building models
- Self-starter with the ability to define business objectives and streamline functions
- Understanding of financial processes, accounting, and related systems and controls
- Experience using Oracle or other financial software
- Strong attention to detail including a high level of accuracy
- Advanced Excel skills including macros, vlookups & advanced formulas; Excel Powerpivot experience a plus
- Experience developing and maintaining dashboards in visualization tools such as Tableau, Domo, QlikView or similar tools a plus
- Good business judgment; ability to analyze, uncover & synthesize insights from large data sets
- Able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, dynamic environment with tight deadlines, prioritizing workload with minimal supervision and multiple projects
- Strong interpersonal and interrelation skills with an ability to establish, build and maintain relationships with a variety of people across divisions
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics/Mathematics/Statistics required
- Two (2) years of directly-related experience required; Five (5) years in related financial analyst or business analyst role preferred
The annual salary range is $75,000-$90,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
