SUMMARY

Live Oak is hiring for a lower school division director (LSDD) to start July 1, 2025.

Live Oak School, a K-8 independent school in the heart of urban San Francisco, believes that the best learning happens when students are actively engaged in the process — thinking deeply, exploring ideas, and trying on strategies for solving problems. The school’s approach to teaching and learning is deeply rooted in progressive tradition and informed by contemporary research.

The LSDD supervises, coaches, and evaluates all faculty in grades K-4, and oversees several areas of the lower school academic program, including: implementation for curricular and student strategies; communication and engagement with guardians; and student success and restorative practices.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Divisional Oversight

  1. Lead the lower school faculty in the implementation of an identity responsive educational program.
  2. Ensure the implementation of a cohesive and engaging program for lower school students.
  3. Oversee formative and summative assessments of student performance.

Faculty & Staff Leadership

  1. Support the professional growth of the lower school faculty.
  2. Plan and lead meetings with faculty that support student success.
  3. Contribute to the supervision and evaluation of the lower school faculty.
  4. Partner on the recruitment and support of new faculty.

External Affairs

  1. Build strong relationships with parents, guardians, and students.
  2. Partner with other administrators in planning community experiences.
  3. Support parents and guardians in understanding the school’s purpose and programs.
  4. Support the admissions office in recruiting and retaining new students.

QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  2. Understanding of child development.
  3. Leadership experience in curriculum and/or pedagogy.
  4. Experience guiding parents and guardians.
  5. Multiple years of experience as an elementary or middle school teacher.
