The water treatment sales/service representative will be responsible for identifying, developing, and servicing existing and new accounts in the assigned territory. They will work closely with our customers to provide water treatment programs tailored to their specific needs using our various unique technologies.
Sales Responsibilities
This is an outside, field, sales/service position in which the employee will identify, develop, and service new accounts in assigned territory as well as service any existing accounts. This an independent position with minimal direct supervision generally working from a home office.
- Generate and execute sales plan in obtained customer base and against competitively-held accounts to meet defined territory sales and profit increase goals.
- Develop a network of local design engineering firms, mechanical contractors, and
real estate managers to generate leads.
- Participate in local networking groups such as ASHE, USGBA, and BOMA to develop sales opportunities.
- Perform water treatment surveys on prospective sites.
- Devise water treatment programs and develop proposals, support by Main Office
staff.
- Locate potential new customers and make cold sales calls.
- Do program presentations to close new business.
- Work closely with current and prospective customers to understand business needs and recommend continuous improvement and innovation plans that will maintain and grow sales within assigned territory.
- Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in current and prospective
customers, including plant, facility, and corporate executives.
- Provide technical support to customers; identifying and resolving customer challenges, escalating as required.
- Engage in problem solving by performing system analysis, interpreting data and providing written recommendations to ensure customer operations are performing
at optimal levels.
- Actively sell and support innovations and technology in assigned
customers to promote long-term business relationships with our team.
- Work with Corporate staff and management to ensure success in sales activities.
- Having pricing authority, price water management programs so as to obtain new
business while making a reasonable profit.
- Work with the Engineered Systems Division staff on sales of major systems such as wastewater treatment, recycle, and reuse, and cooling towers.
Service Responsibilities
Service is a very important part of this job. If you expect or desire for service to be a small portion of the job, do not apply.
- You must be a highly competent people with mechanical and electrical aptitude.
Much of this job is troubleshooting equipment problems and correcting them
with minimal support from Main Office staff.
- Lead and manage the customer relationship including as needed an annual program review.
- Plan and perform routine customer water treatment service visits based on schedule and established customer desires.
- Run on-site water chemistry tests, analyze results, take corrective action(s), make adjustments, calibrate control equipment, communicate the results and recommendations to customer verbally and via electronic service report (MS
Excel) which are copied to Corporate Sale/Service Manager.
- Maintain water treatment control and chemical feed equipment including water softeners, controllers, pumps, tubing chemical inventory, test kits, and reagents. This includes rebuilding and repairing equipment on-site or working with Main Office staff to generate a quote for repair or replacement items. Key here is to be able to achieve this with limited interaction and support from Main Office staff
- Provide customer training as requested using prepared materials.
- Maintain relationships with all customer managers, staff, and operators.
Job Requirements
Requirements, Desired Skills, and Experience
- Must be Highly Motivated and a Self Starter.
- High school diploma or GED, college degree (2 o4 4 yr) preferred.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Experience in water treatment is preferred but not required. CWT certificate
would be a plus.
- Three to five years of experience in sales with a proven successful track record.
- Strong hands on chemical, mechanical, and electrical aptitude.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Proficient in use of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, knowledgeable in use of computer, tablet, smart phone, and similar work related technology.
- Must be in good physical condition, physical work involve a lot of walking within work sites such as boiler rooms and cooling tower utility plants. Ladder climbing ability and moving chemical containers as required.
- Ability to develop and perform all sales and service activities in assigned territory.
