Pay and benefits for employees represented by a union are outlined in their collective bargaining agreement.Position Purpose:This position, which focuses on financial management and accounting for capital expenditures, will review, monitor, and ensure procedural compliance of the cost and asset components of the projects included in the capital investment program in each region from initiation to close. This role will assist with all project and program related accounting activities and analyze project financials. This role will act as the regional liaison between Engineering and all Utility-wide cost and asset accounting groups, devising methods for identifying expenditure trends in available information sources, identifying areas of process improvement and potential cost reductions, and be the local representative for accounting system and policy improvements. Lastly this position will provide reports on financial performance measures on both a recurring and ad-hoc basis.Primary Duties/Responsibilities:Support regional Project Managers and Director of Engineering with regular CapEx activities associated with the implementation of and compliance with financial, governance and accounting policy and best practices as it relates to capital cost and asset accounting. These activities include:Prepare and edit as requested project metadata, dates, and budget plans in the financial source of truth platform.Prepare, administer, analyze, and correct as required project cost and asset data, status, transfers, unitizations and other metrics and partner collaboratively with stakeholders to improve accuracy and efficiency of asset management and to ensure costs accurately reflect project progress.Reconcile inventory using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.Review and reconcile sales and use tax charges if required.Independently monitor and analyze project expenditures every month. Use ERP systems to perform cost queries and complex financial analyses on a monthly basis, drilling into and addressing errors in the data with Accounting.Identify projects that require authorization overruns and perform evaluations on the root cause.Provide a report of monthly financial analysis to Engineering staff each month.Prepare expenditure reports for regulatory filings. This includes retrieving data from various systems and preparing customized reports.Perform cost queries to assist the Director of Engineering with any additional cost analyses and breakdowns.Work with stakeholder groups at the Corporate level to identify and develop areas of cost or process improvement as it relates to cost and asset accounting and to participate in process optimization. These activities include:Present monthly financial analysis to the accounting team at the beginning of each month to inform business strategy.Use this data to identify and present areas of process improvements within policy or within the financial system platforms to drive value for the business to improve integrity of financial accounting.Contribute to the development of processes and procedures to support capex activities related to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) activities.Assist with document review and modification to implement these improvements.Act as regional power user for accounting and ERP systems including improvement or upgrade projects. Review changes with the regional team, assist in System Integration and User Acceptance Testing, and assist with training to regional users upon Go Live. o Provide training for new employees on ERP and Asset Management platforms.QualificationsEducation/Experience/Background:Bachelor's degree in Finance or Business Administration, or Accounting.3+ years of financial, cost accounting, project controller, or cost engineering experience.Experience with Oracle based financial/accounting/budgeting software is a plus.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Experience working with and learning different budgeting, accounting, or analytical software.Knowledge of GAAP/IFRS accounting theory and practice preferred.Detail oriented and accurate with strong numerical analysis, evaluation and research skills and ability to work with integrity and careful judgment.Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites.Excellent analytical, organizational, computer, and interpersonal skills.Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with engineers, project managers, operations, finance, accounting and communications dept. with regard to projects, capital investment, expenditures, schedules, etc.Required Certification/Licenses/Training:Eligibility to take Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred.Additional InformationWe are an Equal Opportunity Employer!
