Aluminum Welder/Fabricator 3 - EXPERIENCE WITH ALUMINUM

Reports to: Fabrication Department Supervisor
Location: Bremerton
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
Day Shift: 5:00AM to 3:30PM Mon- Thurs
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour DOE
JOB SUMMARY :
The Welder/Fabricator 3 uses welding and other tools and equipment to join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal to build boats. Position is responsible for the daily coordination of assigned area. In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, ensuring standard work is being performed, and identifying and resolving quality issues. This position can apply their experience to problem solve and complete advanced tasks/work effectively and efficiently with little to no supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers & portable grinders.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc & plasma arc.
  • Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Advanced in general safety practices, knowledgeable in SBI safety handbook and utilizes expert safety precautions with all tools and processes.
  • Able to set up and/or verify settings on production machines and equipment
  • Operates a wide variety of handheld and power-assisted tools and production fixtures
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position
  • Effectively communicate to supervisor and manager
  • Ensures quality and accuracy of their work
  • Reports major issues to supervisor or to team lead
  • Problem solving minor to complex issues
  • Works under minimal supervision
  • Set example of safe work practices and attendance policy
  • Report any misconduct of team members to supervisor, manager or lead
  • Assists in training and development of less experienced welders/fabricators
  • Assists leadership in developing standards and procedures

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to a minimum of 5 overall years of experience in area of expertise.
  • Aluminum experience required, GMAW (MIG) preferred
  • Requires a superior working knowledge in the usage of production machinery, common hand tools, handheld power tools and fabricating equipment.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints and weld symbols
  • Experience in marine industry/boat building preferred
  • Ability to pass a welding skill test appropriate for the position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity. Use of manufacturing equipment. Work in areas at times that are not environmentally controlled. Able to move 40 lbs. Ability to get underway with high-speed watercraft in variable weather conditions.
