Designer Fund invests in Pre-Seed through Series A companies that use design to improve health, sustainability, and prosperity for all people. We provide founders with expertise on hiring and managing design teams, product and brand design advice, along with a community of top designers, founders, and advisors. We’ve invested in multi-billion dollar companies like Stripe, Gusto, Notion, Commure, and Netlify and have raised three funds totaling over $80M since 2014.

About the Role

Designer Fund is looking for a Community Advocate to assist in managing Designer Fund Collective, our private community of design leaders, advisors, and founders. If you have a passion for fostering a thriving community and want to support designers and founders in using design to improve the world, we would love to hear from you.

This is a remote, part-time position with flexible working hours. However, we require availability during U.S. work hours. The estimated weekly commitment is 10-15 hours on average.

Responsibilities

Screening and onboarding members

  • Screen member applications based on member criteria
  • Guide new members through the onboarding process, finding the right balance between automated and personal interactions
  • Welcome new members in the #intros channel and via direct messages
  • Serve as a moderator for key channels, ensuring they remain active and well-maintained by initiating meaningful conversations, responding to posts, and tagging specific members to encourage participation and response to questions
  • Answer general questions about Designer Fund Collective and assist members in navigating the Slack workspace and member hub
  • Help surface and share back knowledge shared in the community via Slack or email
  • Monitor for posts that violate community guidelines

Supporting community programming and operations

  • Help plan community meetups and moderate gatherings on Zoom or Gatheround
  • Draft community digests and event recaps to share back with members
  • Aid in organizing and maintaining community CRM in Airtable/Circle
  • Report on community engagement and growth
  • Assist with hiring support for our portfolio and community

Ideal Qualities

  • Prior experience in community management, content development, and/or event management
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage vibrant and active online and/or in-person communities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in launching and maintaining new programs and initiatives
  • Nice to have: Background as a designer or extensive collaboration with designers. We are seeking someone who understands the challenges that designers at startups face and can communicate effectively with them
  • Nice to have: Experience scaling early stage startups and working closely with founders
  • Nice to have: Proficiency in automation, productivity, and community tools such as Airtable, Notion, Zapier, Slack, Circle, etc.
