As a Security Specialist (Personnel Security) with the Office of Protective Services, Personnel Security Division, you will be responsible for reviewing and releasing background investigations to the Investigation Service Provider, processing reciprocity for fitness, as well as fitness adjudications for the Agency. In addition, you will ensure all requirements are met prior to the authorization of a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) or Agency-specific badge. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-09 level, you must have:
- One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level:
- Assisting with background investigations assuring appropriate initiation, processing, or adjudication;
- Working with employees, contractors, affiliates, and volunteers requiring a background investigation and reviewing forms for accuracy and completeness;
- Providing guidance to customers on submitting required documents for background investigations.
OR
- Completed all requirements for a master's or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field;
- Completed 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field;
- LL.B or J.D, if related;
- Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed above.
To qualify for GS-11, you must have:
- One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level:
- Assisting with the preparation of letters for interrogatory, advisement, and/or revocation purposes to address issues of concern relating to fitness adjudications and the issuance of badges/credentials, while reviewing responses and suggesting next steps;
- Initiating, reviewing, submitting, and/or monitoring Personnel Security Investigations through final adjudication;
- Monitoring assignments to ensure timely processing of cases to ensure compliance with government performance and accountability requirements, keeping the supervisor abreast of recurring problems or systemic deficiencies.
OR
- Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field;
- Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in an appropriate field;
- LL.M., if related;
- Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed above.
