ABOUT THE ROLE


The successful candidate will serve as leader of authority with expert level knowledge in building enclosure performance, planning and detailing and will be responsible for leading the development of all technical aspects and content for the building envelope of large, complex projects and multiple smaller projects, coordinating work with multiple disciplines and trades to ensure an integrated set of deliverables, and verifying compliance through team collaboration.


HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DO


  1. Manage critical path process to lead project team through the technical and production aspects from initial stages of pre-design through project completion.
  2. Delegate and monitor the technical work of multiple Project Architects and teams.
  3. Lead the regular and ongoing engagement with the Office or Project Quality Leader for general and targeted project support.
  4. Lead the integration and development of the technical aspects and content of the design and documentation of the building enclosure, and translate them into our instrument of service.
  5. Work with the Project Manager to establish and maintain realistic work and labor plans and deliverable schedules that contribute to bottom line financial success and satisfy contractual obligations.
  6. Engage in and contribute to the project Risk Assessment process including updates. Proactively identifies, communicates, mitigates and resolves project-related issues.
  7. Guide and assist Project Architects in the development of Project Quality Plans and updates to effectively manage project Quality including phase milestone quality reviews and project pinups / technical charettes.
  8. Review the development of and lead the execution of the documentation strategy for each phase drawing document deliverable through the Cartooning process.
  9. Work in collaboration with the Project Design Lead to manage/align design aspirations with client goals and project and external constraints.
  10. Support, encourage and participate in the translation of project design intent through development and resolution of comprehensive and coordinated three-dimensional solutions across technical documentation and construction phases to project completion.
  11. Monitor the integration of the project's building performance and sustainable design goals into a holistic design solution.
  12. Validate the pertinent technical and design decisions made across multiple project meetings to disseminate holistic direction and data to the project team for integration into project scope.
  13. Continuously monitor project documentation and compliance with contractual obligations.
  14. Guide and assist Project Architects in the Life Safety, Building and Energy Code analysis and compliance process for the project.
  15. Lead coordination of all disciplines, including in-house and external consultants, with the architectural design intent.
  16. Collaborate with the Model Manager to monitor quality of the model processes, content, and deliverables.
  17. Lead the alignment of the construction documents by working closely with the Project Specification Writer, verifying Project Manual content and its coordination with the drawings.
  18. Advise client on technical architectural and coordination issues in context of project contractual obligations.
  19. May act as in-house peer reviewer within the Quality Process for other projects.
  20. Guide and assist Project Architects in Construction Administration phase responsibilities including the timely response to RFIs and Submittals.
  21. Participate in Business Development activity and collaborate with Project Managers, Marketing and Office Leadership as necessary.
  22. Contribute to the capture and reuse of institutional knowledge within the firm focused on very large project implementation.
  23. Write technical articles relating to the technical quality subjects described above for internal and/or external publication.
  24. Support and implement introduction of new building technologies, methods, and materials.
  25. Monitor, train and direct work of project team members, focusing on technical quality and process standards.
  26. Meets established utilization target.
  27. May perform other duties as needed.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED


  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.
  2. Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  3. Minimum 15 years of related professional experience in Architecture. Experience includes 5 years in increasingly responsible roles in construction documentation on institutional and/or commercial projects and at least 3 years in a responsible role in construction administration on large institutional or commercial projects.
  4. Current Architectural Registration in the United States required.
  5. Demonstrated focus on quality.
  6. LEED accreditation preferred.
  7. Experience leading all technical aspects with production teams on large, complex projects of more than $300M construction costs.
  8. Must have the ability to be client facing with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Must possess strong business acumen.
  10. Strong technical leadership with knowledge of building codes and requirements.
  11. Must have strong subject matter expertise.
  12. Strong coordination skills and the ability to build a rapport with the project team and client is essential.
  13. Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and construction management software.
  14. Living Centered Design Competencies.
  15. Professional business attire is required for client meetings. Examples of professional business attire include suits, ties, collared dress shirts, dresses, and skirts.
  16. Travel required.
