Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for an Environmental, Health, & Safety Manager for the Hobart, IN manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this person will be responsible for providing support and leading the Environmental, Health, and Safety programs and compliance needs for a 600,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility.

What you'll do:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including ADOSH, EPA, MCAQD, etc.
  • Develop and implement the site-specific injury and illness prevention plan.
  • Ensure execution of environmental permit conditions including sampling, recordkeeping, and reporting (air, water, and waste)
  • Manage the support and responses required by local, state, and federal regulatory inspections.
  • Ensure site-level conformance with Company-wide EHS initiatives and directives.
  • Manage first aid, recordable, and lost-time injuries, including coordinating with corporate resources to manage workers compensation claims at the local level.
  • Support safety and environmental management system implementation.
  • Manage EHS-related vendors and contractors, and any associated projects.
  • Establish and maintain safety and environmental document control programs.
  • Manage the sites EHS training, database, and tracking.
  • Administer employee safety orientation and tracking.
  • Perform EHS incident investigations and root cause analysis with the goal of implementing corrective actions to reduce and eliminate risk.


What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field; or relevant working experience as an equivalency
  • Five to eight years' experience working in an EHS leader role supporting a manufacturing facility.
  • Professional certification in Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of safety and environmental management systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Within 3 months, you'll:

  • Complete your Atkore Immersion Program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Gain an understanding of Hobart, IN regulatory requirements.
  • Understand the manufacturing process as it relates to EHS program needs.
  • Understand site specific environmental regulatory recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Perform site level inspections as they relate to EHS program requirements.

Within 6 months, you'll:

  • Support initiatives to improve facility 5S Score to glide-path level.
  • Complete Wastewater state certification.
  • Maintain the Enablon database for reporting of all site level EHS incidents.
  • Understand Atkore Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMs) requirements to determine EHS site level performance in efforts to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead environmental monitoring programs for air, water, and waste management to ensure regulatory compliance with site level permit requirements.
  • Manage recordkeeping and reporting of all site level ESG requirements.
  • Complete evaluation of all site level EHS programs needed. Develop and implement EHS training matrix to ensure regulatory obligations are met.
  • Perform all EHS incident investigations and perform root cause analysis to eliminate risk in operations.

Within 12 months, you'll:

  • Fully understand the sites' EHS programs and ensure ongoing compliance and provide EHS leadership.
  • Perform EHS risk assessments on facility processes and provide support to the operations group to implement necessary controls to reduce risk.
  • Implement and ensure that EHS Program structure is in place to periodically review program requirements, site level training needs are met, and compliance audits are performed to ensure compliance with EHS requirements.
