Job Title: Sr Director, Mixed Signal IP

Primary Location: Austin (Texas) - hybrid role with 3 days in office and 2 days work from home

Role Summary:

  • The Mixed Signal IP Sr Director will lead the design, development and management of mixed-signal IPs, integrating both analog and digital components.
  • This role involves overseeing a multidisciplinary team of around 50 engineers, managing complex projects, and ensuring that all IPs meet industry standards and customer requirements.
  • The candidate will possess deep technical expertise in mixed-signal design, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive strategic initiatives that align with the business objectives.
  • This position also requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, reliable IP solutions on time and within budget.

Job Responsibility:

  • Leadership & Team Management: Manage a multidisciplinary team of analog and digital design engineers, layout engineers (team size around 50 engineers).
  • Mixed Signal IP Development: Oversee the end-to-end design and development of mixed signal IPs, ensuring high quality deliverables that meet technical specification.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, power and area targets as well as industry standards.
  • Project Management: Monitor project progress, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure timely delivery. Allocate resources for given tasks.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams: Address technical challenges and ensure alignment with overall project goals.
  • Customer Engagement & Support: Provide technical support and guidance to customers during IP integration and usage.
  • IP Portfolio Management: Manage the mixed-signal IP portfolio, ensuring it meets market demands and aligns with strategic goals.
  • Oversee IP documentation, version control and maintenance to ensure long-term reliability and usability.
  • Innovation: Identify emerging trends and technologies in the mixed-signal domain and incorporate them into the IP roadmap.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Implement rigorous testing and validation procedures to guarantee IP functionality and reliability. Conduct design reviews and audits to maintain high standards of quality throughout the development process.

Job Qualification:

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field. Strong foundational knowledge in both analog and digital circuit design principles.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in mixed-signal IP design and development.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a leadership or management role within a semiconductor or related industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading mixed-signal IP projects from concept through to production.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in mixed-signal circuit design, including ADCs, DACs, PLLs, SerDes and other key components.
  • Proficiency in using Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools such as Cadence, Synopsys or Mentor Graphics.
  • In-depth understanding of semiconductor processes, device physics and fabrication technologies.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and protocols such as USB, HDMI, MIPI, PCIe.
  • Experience with layout in advanced process nodes, verification flow/methodology and testability of mixed-signal IPs.

Leadership and Communication Skills:

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and motivate a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage customer relationships.

Quality and Compliance:

  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and ensuring that all IPs meet relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in conducting design reviews, audits, and implementing best practices in quality assurance.

Project Management Skills:

  • Strong project management abilities, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation and risk management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within tight timelines.

Strategic Thinking:

  • Ability to identify emerging trends in the mixed-signal domain and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
