Reporting to the SVP Operations, the Director of Sanitation oversees and drives excellence with all sanitation practices within all SK Food Group facilities. Ensures sanitation processes and procedures ensure that our products meet and exceed health and safety standards, ultimately safeguarding our consumers’ wellbeing.

This role will be based at one of our four SK Food Group manufacturing facilities: Columbus, Ohio, Reno, Nevada, Phoenix, Arizona, or Cleveland, Tennessee, and will require regular travel to the other facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Establish and implement cleaning and sanitation procedures for all food processing areas, equipment, and utensils to prevent contamination.
  2. Ensure all facilities meet all local, state, and federal sanitation and health regulations, including conducting regular inspections.
  3. Provide ongoing training for staff on sanitation practices, hygiene standards, and the importance of food safety.
  4. Identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks related to sanitation and food safety.
  5. Partner with other departments, such as quality assurance and production, to ensure that sanitation practices align with overall food safety goals.
  6. Remain informed of the latest sanitation technologies and practices and incorporate improvements into existing SK Food Group practices.
  7. Respond to sanitation-related emergencies, such as contamination events or product recalls, by implementing corrective actions and preventive measures.
  8. Advise on sanitation budget needs, including purchasing cleaning supplies and equipment necessary for maintaining hygiene standards.
  9. Ensure that the food facility operates in a clean, safe, and compliant manner to protect public health and maintain product quality.
  10. Communicate standardized processes and ensure alignment across all sites to ensure consistent and effective sanitation practices.
  11. Manage facilities contract with 3rd party sanitation companies as needed.
  12. Lead QMS rollout (SafetyChain) implementation for document and record keeping tracking for all sites.
  13. Lead KPI development, implementation, and data analysis for Sanitation and Food Safety Programs.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  2. Five to seven years of experience in sanitation management within the food industry, with a strong background in regulatory compliance.
  3. Experience leading teams, both directly and indirectly, and managing cross-functional projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  4. Extensive knowledge of food safety regulations, sanitation protocols, and best practices in food processing environments.
  5. Certification in food safety or sanitation (e.g., HACCP, SQF) is preferred.
  6. In-depth knowledge of cleaning agents and sanitation equipment.
  7. Must have a deep understanding of microbiology.
  8. Ability to lead teams to maintain a clean and compliant operational environment through best-in-class processes and procedures.
  9. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to solve problems effectively.
  10. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  11. Effective leadership and time management skills.
  12. Good computer skills in areas such as MS Office and ERP systems.
  13. Must be able to work off shifts, i.e., nights, to align with sanitation processes when needed.
  14. Ability to travel regularly to plant locations, estimated at 60%.
