**Job Title:** Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
**Job Specialty:** FS - Surgical/Transplant
**Job Duration:** 17 Weeks
**Shift:** Med/Surg Unit (No OR candidates)
**Guaranteed Hours:** 36 Hours per Week
**Experience:** Minimum 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience, ENT and/or Transplant experience preferred
**License:** Current RN License, valid compact RN License if applicable
**Certifications:** Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
**Must-Have:**
- Acute care surgical floor experience
- Competency in post-operative care
- Experience with drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT/DHT
- Step-down care experience
**Job Description:**
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and treatments; note changes in physician orders.
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe physiological manifestations, and intervene when necessary.
- Administer prescribed medications and manage intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Deliver competent patient care.
- Interact with patients and families to share care plans during the hospital stay and at discharge.
- Inform patients and families about hospital procedures.
- Make patient care referrals to appropriate personnel.
- Delegate tasks to support staff.
**Schedule Notes:**
- Care for inpatients pre or post-surgical services
- Ratios: 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for the step-down area
- Monitor new transplant patients for reactions, rejection, and infections
**Required Skills & Experience:**
- Knowledge of nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs
- Basic computer skills
**Education:**
- **Required:** Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- **Preferred:** Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a board-approved program
