Job Title : Project Manager – Construction (Interior GC - Retail Store Experience)
Location : Manhattan, New York
Reports to : Director of Construction
Position Summary :
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the planning and execution of high-end retail store construction projects in Manhattan. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing retail construction projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to coordinate and manage all project activities, from inception through to completion.
Key Responsibilities :
- Project Management: Lead and manage all phases of the construction process for retail store projects, from pre-construction through to project closeout, ensuring that all goals related to budget, schedule, and quality are met.
- Retail Store Expertise: Leverage your extensive knowledge of retail construction, including store layouts, brand-specific designs, and high-traffic considerations, to deliver flagship and specialty retail spaces in line with the client’s vision.
- Client Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded. Maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Budget & Cost Control: Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring financial objectives are met. Track expenses, manage changes, and look for opportunities to optimize costs without compromising quality.
- Scheduling: Create detailed project schedules, managing timelines, milestones, and deliverables. Ensure all phases of the project are completed on time and within scope.
- Contractor & Vendor Coordination: Oversee and coordinate all subcontractors, suppliers, and trades, ensuring they meet project deadlines, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Permitting & Compliance: Ensure all necessary permits are obtained and that projects comply with all relevant building codes and regulations specific to New York City.
- Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure smooth project delivery. Proactively resolve issues as they arise.
- Quality Control: Maintain a high standard of quality throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring all work aligns with design specifications and the client’s brand standards.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates on project progress, financial status, and potential issues to upper management and clients.
Qualifications :
- 7+ years of project management experience in the construction industry, with at least 3 years focused on retail store projects.
- Experience managing projects in high-density urban environments, particularly in Manhattan, with an understanding of the unique logistical and regulatory challenges.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid, MS Project, Bluebeam).
- Solid understanding of project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Ability to review and approve construction drawings, schedules, and scopes of work.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to quality and detail, particularly in high-end retail environments where finishes and customer experience are paramount.
