Position Description:

STEM School Highlands Ranch is a cutting-edge K-12 public charter school in Colorado, dedicated to fostering innovation and excellence in education. We are looking for a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and ensure sustainable growth in alignment with our mission to prepare students for the future.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for the school.
2. Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including education funding and reporting requirements.
3. Manage cash flow, investment strategies, and risk management to support the long-term sustainability of the school.
4. Collaborate with school leadership to develop financial strategies that align with the school’s mission and growth objectives.
5. Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Directors and provide strategic guidance to the leadership team.
6. Oversee the finance team, ensuring accurate financial tracking, grant management, and reporting.
7. Prepare annual operating and capital budgets for board approval and provide monthly financial statements and narratives to the board and finance committees.
8. Manage the approved budget and prepare rolling forecasts for changes in events.
9. Supervise business office staff and ensure the development of proper internal controls over accounting tasks.
10. Oversee the preparation of financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and tax returns.
11. Provide strategic recommendations to the CIO and other members of the shared services team.
12. Monitor business performance, cash flow, and propose corrective actions to improve the school’s financial health.
13. Maintain strong working relationships with district authorizer, school board, shared services, and school administration.

Qualifications:

1. Proven experience in a senior financial leadership role, ideally within the education sector.
2. Strong understanding of school finance, public funding, and nonprofit financial management.
3. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and best practices.
4. Excellent leadership and communication skills with a track record of guiding teams and supporting executive decisions.
5. Relevant degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.

Physical Requirements:

1. Occasional lifting (5-50 pounds).
2. Ability to stand/walk for 90 minutes and run short distances.
3. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and sitting.

Work Schedule:

Full-time, Monday to Friday, in-person.

This position will be open until filled, but will not be open past: November 31, 2024.

The pay range for this role is: 125,000 - 175,000 USD per year (Main).
