This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Join a world-class team dedicated to human space exploration and play a pivotal role as a vehicle Systems Safety Engineer (Software). You'll work with diverse engineers on the Blue Moon Lunar Lander system, analyzing safety, defining requirements, identifying hazard controls, and supporting integration and validation.

Work with NASA and National Team Partners in the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. Contribute to developing the Blue Moon Lunar Lander, enabling human return to the Moon and expanding human presence beyond Earth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform and lead engineering activities including Software Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, and Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA).

  • Develop plans and coordinate completion of software safety analysis, providing review, guidance, and expertise of safety analysis products.

  • Ensure traceability between system and subsystem functions, requirements, and safety artifacts.

  • Support verification and validation of safety and reliability requirements.

  • Work together with Lunar Systems Engineers to establish standard methodologies and explore possibilities for implementing common processes across projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • 5+ years of Software or Systems Engineering experience performing activities such as requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, integration, verification, validation, and software development.

  • Experience with performing safety analyses including the following: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, and Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA).

  • Ability to coordinate safety analysis products across collaborators and experts from different engineering fields to develop safety products.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information effectively.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in software development, preferably C/C++.

  • Experience with software verification and validation.

  • Experience with software architecture design or review.

  • Experience with NPR 7150.2D Software Engineering Standard or equivalent.

  • Experience with NASA-STD-8739.8B Software Safety Standard or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of current systems engineering and integration tools and methodologies.

  • Experience with systems engineering tools such as JAMA and Cameo.

Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $120,060.00-$168,084.00;CO applicants is $110,055.00-$154,077.00;WA applicants is $120,060.00-$168,084.00
