King County Superior Court is seeking a Family Treatment Specialist to join its Family Court team. The mission of King County Superior Court is to equitably serve the diverse public by administering justice through accessible, inclusive, and unbiased forums for the fair, understandable, and timely resolution of legal matters.
The responsibilities of the Family Treatment Specialist include identifying and recruiting new participants, providing orientation, conducting substance use and mental health screenings, and making referrals to treatment agencies. The incumbent recommends court-ordered neuropsychological assessments and trauma treatment when appropriate and assesses potential services for compliance with state-mandated "evidence-based" requirements.
The incumbent will develop appropriate recovery maintenance plans, facilitate communication between the court and treatment providers, monitor parents' progress in and compliance with the treatment program, and provide case coordination services. The Family Treatment Specialist is the primary link for clients to substance use and mental health treatment and serves as a member of the Family Treatment Court team that reviews parents' participation and recommends services. The incumbent gathers and maintains data on program performance.

Work location: This position performs work remotely and onsite. The regular onsite work location for the position is the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA. The incumbent may be required to work at other facilities as assigned.
Work schedule: This is a full-time position working 35 hours per week. Work schedule is normally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime-eligible.

Responsibilities:
- Identify, recruit and orient participants to Family Treatment Court program.
- Provide program specific information to internal and external customers.
- Establish and stay informed about methods for referral to treatment agencies, scheduling intake appointments, obtaining client records, referral to treatment agencies and obtaining client progress reports. Establish and maintain relationships with substance use and mental health treatment providers. Determine treatment agencies' compliance with state-mandated "evidence-based" requirements.
- Provide case coordination regarding treatment placement, and access to public benefits, clinical treatment and other social services. Work with families using motivational interviewing and other therapeutic techniques to address treatment readiness and progress, and other social service needs.
- Gather facts, assess clinical concerns, and recommend appropriate treatment-focused resolutions and present these to the court. Screen for neurological conditions, and suicidal, homicidal and domestic violence risk factors. Recommend court-ordered neuropsychological assessments and trauma treatment, and refer for the appropriate services. Develop appropriate recovery maintenance plans.
- Assist parents' transition into treatment and link to treatment facility and access to other social services. Monitor parent and participant status, compliance and progress in treatment. Represent the treatment voice at court, wraparound and work team meetings.
- Coordinate with public, state, county and community partners and facilitate client-centered meetings throughout the duration of the dependency case. Explain the Family Treatment Court process and program, encourage partners to clarify issues and needs. Manage escalated arguments and dissenting opinions, informally mediate. Use motivational interviewing techniques to move clients through the stages of change.
- Follow-up on Family Treatment Court-eligible cases until case is accepted into Family Treatment Court, ensure that services are accessed, and offer additional assistance if necessary.
- After entry into Family Treatment Court, review court ordered services and ensure referrals have been made and barriers to accessing those services minimized.
- Maintain client file; collect social, mental health, substance use and criminal histories. Gather information on program performance and maintain database(s).
- Prepare and present eligible cases for acceptance into Family Treatment Court; participate in client treatment meetings. Participate in business meetings.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in social work or a related field, or certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional, and four years of experience working as a case manager in a substance use treatment setting or a mental health treatment setting with individuals who have substance use and/or mental illness disorders; Must have two years of experience working with multi-cultural populations; specialized training or work experience in the child dependency field. Experience working in a courtroom or legal setting strongly desired.
Knowledge of King County's substance use and mental health system and available resources for King County residents; confidentiality requirements as it applies to mental health and substance use information, understanding of ASAM levels, DSM V of the American Psychological Association and how to utilize it in mental health and substance use screenings; strengths-based assessment techniques and theories. Demonstrated ability to use Motivational Interviewing techniques. Maintain a current and working knowledge of community and social services and referral procedures. Knowledge of state requirements related to "evidence based" treatment programs.
Necessary special requirements: Finalists must successfully pass a criminal background check and reference check. Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license or be able to travel throughout the County by alternate means.
