Scope of Job
The Vice Provost for International Study Programs is a pivotal leadership role responsible for fostering and enhancing the global engagement of the university. This position involves strategic planning, development, and implementation of international programs and initiatives that support both faculty and students. The Vice Provost will work closely with the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and other senior leaders to promote international studies and research.
Description of Duties
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Serve as a strategic thought leader and partner on global issues, articulating and advancing UTRGV’s distinctive international strategy.
- Study Abroad Programs: Oversee the development and expansion of the Education Abroad program, ensuring student health and safety.
- Faculty Support: Facilitate and support faculty travel for international research and collaboration.
- International Travel: Support and facilitate student international travel for academic purposes.
- Advising and Counseling: Provide comprehensive advising services to students participating in international programs.
- Global Partnerships: Enhance and expand global partnerships with international universities.
- Policy and Advocacy: Provide guidance on policies related to international studies.
- Campus Collaboration: Coordinate with various campus units to support international students.
- International Representation: Represent UTRGV as its Chief Academic Officer for international engagement.
- Office Management: Lead and manage the International Studies office staff.
- Budget Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision
Received: General supervision from assigned supervisor.
Given: Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
A PhD or terminal degree in the field of study from an accredited university.
Required Experience
At least five (5) years of proven experience in international education or academic administration. Fluent in Spanish and English.
Working Conditions
Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required.
