Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Albany, NY (Clifton Park) office is seeking a CAD Designer/Civil Engineering Technician to support our dam and geotechnical engineering group. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong multi-disciplinary team.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Prepare 2D CAD drawings (plans, profiles, sections, and details) for contract documents based on input and guidance from engineers and other design staff and in accordance with internal drafting standards.
  • Maintain drawing files, CAD standards, and other digital files in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Prepare 3D models for displaying complex features or structures.
  • Prepare graphics for engineering reports, professional papers, and presentations.
  • Participate in professional trainings to develop and implement new skills related to the various disciplines of work.
  • Perform training of other technical staff on drafting standards and procedures.
  • Use architectural and engineering scales.
  • Create new drawings from historical as-built drawings and records.
  • Read and interpret drawings and mark-ups.
  • Self-check work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform field work and a willingness to travel. Field work might include:
    • Collection of data and measurements.
    • Observation and logging of geotechnical test borings.
    • Observation of construction activities, including observation of materials testing such as soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry and reinforcing steel.
    • Communication with contractors, engineers, and project managers.
Required Skills/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1-4 years of experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D in a civil design capacity.
  • Proficiency with the latest version of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D, including experience in developing drawing sets and figures from base data (i.e. survey, GIS, point cloud, engineering sketches, etc.), and based on engineering input and guidance.
  • Critical thinking and the ability to begin and progress designs.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and flexible to changes in work assignments as changes occur in project needs.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • 2+ years of drafting/design experience at a consulting engineering firm or production design organization.
  • Experience in other software including Autodesk Revit, ArcGIS, SketchUp, and Solidworks.
  • Experience with BIM
  • Candidates are requested to submit a portfolio of their work with their application.
Other Requirements:
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check.
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to safely negotiate construction sites.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

The compensation range for this position is between $27.19 to $35.30/hour.
