** The primary work environment (75% - 80%) for this position will be at the correctional institutions, and this is a part-time position that is 20 hours per week .
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, assist in the implementation and integrity of support systems the Financial Aid Office at the correctional institutions. Assist and coordinate the FAFSA completion and verification processes; provide customer service to internal and external customers by giving relevant information, responding to inquiries, and maintaining communications. In cooperation with the Director of Financial Aid exhibit support for the Financial Aid Office, the correctional institutions, as well as Marion Technical College (the "College").
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university required. Three to five years of general office and strong customer service experience required. Previous experience in higher education and/or financial aid highly desired. Proficiency in Microsoft® Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with excellent computer and related technology skills required. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and complete projects with general direction and oversight. Must have strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Any combination of work experience, training, and/or education equivalent may be accepted. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Ability to successfully pass an FBI/BCI and other background checks, prior to and after employment. Valid driver's license or dependable transportation required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist incarcerated students with FAFSA completion, including all follow up documents, requirements and verification.
- Respond to inquiries from students, College employees and customers, while maintaining standards of confidentiality and privacy, in a timely manner; maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, the College, student records, and any other protected documentation.
- Assist with incarcerated student enrollment by providing information financial aid, and referrals to campus resources, etc. Meet with students individually and in group settings on- and off-campus.
- Coach advisees on satisfactory academic progress - warning or probation. Monitor progress to help them return to good academic standing and complete academic goals and/or degree program.
- Utilize all types of electronic formats to maximize turnaround time student financial aid applications, data entry, and document scanning by utilizing PowerFAIDS, PowerCampus, internet, web-based applications, and other types of related software systems. Maintain user proficiency for software programs, systems, and databases used by the College.
- Maintain a current schedule to accommodate student needs, including office hours, on- and off-campus meetings, classes, etc. Maintain flexibility to meet department needs.
- Support the Financial Aid Office with processing financial aid and verifications. Collect and review data for completeness and accuracy. Create and submit files for students flagged for special documentation by the Department of Education. Audit student files, contact students for needed data elements, documentation for file completion, and incomplete files.
- Work with other Financial Aid staff to verify ISIR changes. Transmit and receive files to and from the Department of Education. Ensure quality control of all student aid applications.
- Perform a thorough review of all documentation submitted to request a review of special circumstances. Assess accuracy of data and exercises independent judgment of the appropriate changes that can be made to federal data as it relates to financial aid eligibility.
- Evaluate complete student situations using a variety of evidence to determine eligibility for dependency overrides. Once determination is made, see the process through to completion by either requesting and reviewing additional documentation or submitting data to the U.S. Department of Education.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of federal and state governmental and financial institutions laws and regulations for student financial aid. Attend meetings and training to increase knowledge base on Financial Aid laws, regulations, and changes. Attend and present Financial Aid information at student/parent information sessions.
- Serve as liaison with students, parents, alumni and College employees and faculty for explaining Financial Aid functions within the realm of Enrollment Services, as a whole. Respond to faculty, staff, and student inquiries regarding policies and procedures for Financial Aid functions. Adhere to the Financial Aid Code of Conduct.
- Create and pursue a plan for professional development opportunities within the scope of work responsibilities, department, and College objectives. Demonstrate self-motivation and ability to research and continually update knowledge and skills, as well as provide input and accept additional and changing work responsibilities.
- Attend community functions that may require creating and presenting information on the College programs to a wide range of peers. Attend on- or off-campus College meetings and serve on departmental and College committees as assigned by the supervisor.
