Overview

We’re looking for an Area Vice President of Operations to join our team supporting our branches in Western Pennsylvania.

To be qualified for this position: Registered Nurse STRONGLY preferred. You must live within the western Pennsylvania area, or within a commutable distance of this area to be considered. Five years previous healthcare managerial experience required, of which 3 years in hospice or home health multi-site and regional executive leadership is required.

The Area Vice President of Operations is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and evaluation of operational policies and procedures, delivering quality patient care and family services programs in a cost effective manner and to represent the company in the community. You will report directly to the VP of Operations within a specific state/region.

  • You’ll be responsible for leading the development, implementation and evaluation of operational policies and procedures for offices in an assigned territory.
  • You’ll direct and coordinate the Operational Functions for offices within your region.
  • You’ll be traveling regularly to your regional offices/branches.
  • You’ll be working side-by-side with your clinical and operational team to promote our hospice services and solidify the highest quality patient care in a cost effective manner.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Directs and coordinates the Local Functioning of Operational Functions.
  • Assists in assuring that the hospice meets and exceeds all applicable regulatory requirements or agencies and assumes responsibility for the readiness of the hospice for all inspections, surveys, and reviews including state licensure, federal certifications, and accreditations by implementing the company’s systems, policies and standards.
  • Assures policies in the following manner:
    • Supervises the compliance of all administrative functions and policies with applicable regulatory agencies.
    • Maintains updated copies of all applicable regulations, statutes, and policies and procedures.
    • Coordinates with the appropriate corporate staff, Medical Director, Clinical Manager, and Executive Director or Administrator all activity necessary to assure readiness in the hospice for an on-site survey by applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and expands revenue performance.
  • Develops and maintains key relationships with hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, and other healthcare organizations based on the corporate business plan and revenue budgets.
  • Manages the implementation phase of contracts to assure that discharge planning and case review functions are understood and agreed to by contracting institutions.
  • Establishes collegial, ongoing relationships with the key officials of contracting entities to promote the smooth and efficient functioning of such contracts.
  • Responsible for supervision of day-to-day operation of program including, but not limited to:
    • Financial Management.
    • Employment Process.
    • Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement.
    • Payroll.
    • Admissions.
    • Medical Staff.
    • Systems Operations.
    • Business Plan.
    • Human Resource Policy.
    • Staff Development.
    • Responsible for the Patient and Family Services Program.

Takes overall responsibility for the clinical services function at the Hospice including the home, hospital settings, nursing homes, and other locations.

Handles overall management of the Volunteer Program including supervising the director of volunteers.

Assures the performance of the volunteer and bereavement programs in compliance with the local work plan developed with corporate staff.

Assumes the role of official spokesperson for the company in the community; manages public relations, generates and responds to all opportunities for media requests in coordination with the corporate communication department, and assures the handling and resolution of any complaints from patients, families, and the public.

Participates in the coordination of all aspects of the patient’s hospice care and in the hospice’s quality assessment and performance improvement program.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with state and federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Multi-site leadership experience.
  • Working knowledge of budget development, financial profit/loss process, and human resources.
  • Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Well organized and confident to work independently, but is a team player.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to remote field, mid-level, and executive staff.
  • Exercises professional judgment and demonstrates good problem-resolution skills.
  • Very comfortable working with multiple online and computer applications.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Strong follow-up skills.

Education/Experience:

  • RN Degree highly STRONGLY preferred; Bachelors’ degree in Business Related field may be considered.
  • Five years previous healthcare managerial experience required, of which 3 years in hospice or home health multi-site and regional executive leadership is required.

About You

  • Registered Nurse highly preferred.
  • Bachelors’ degree in Business Related field may be considered.
  • Minimum of five years healthcare managerial experience required.
  • Unencumbered and active RN license in state of residence if RN.
  • Hospice or Home Care experience strongly preferred.
