Position: MongoDB DBA

Location: Reading, PA (Onsite 3 Days a week)

Type: Long Term Contract


Responsibilities:

- Design and implement MongoDB database architectures for high-performance, scalable applications

- Lead the development of company-wide data architecture strategies and best practices

- Optimize existing MongoDB deployments for improved performance and efficiency

- Develop complex data models and schema designs that align with application requirements and industry best practices

- Implement data migration strategies and manage the evolution of database structures

- Developing/setting alerts, observability for MongoDb

- Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)

- Implement and maintain MongoDB clusters including replica sets and sharded clusters, ensuring data distribution and fault tolerance

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate MongoDB solutions into enterprise applications

- Architect multi-database solutions, integrating MongoDB with other databases and data processing systems

- Lead database capacity planning and performance forecasting

- Conduct regular architecture reviews and provide recommendations for improvement

- Develop, validate and maintain disaster recovery and high availability strategies

- Evaluate new database technologies and recommend adoption when appropriate

- Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide expert-level support

- Stay current with MongoDB updates and emerging database technologies

- Translate technical concepts and patterns into business benefits for management

- Have situational awareness and react appropriately in group settings

- Advise team on architectures, patterns, and strategies for making the best use of MongoDB

- Align to support teams with activities such as technical discovery, demos, proof of value (&concept), presentation, sizing, and documentation of technical decision criteria, working across a number of opportunities in parallel

- Proactively seek opportunities to support and mentor team members and share standard methodologies

- Perform Database upgrade and security patches

- Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime.

- Work with development teams to understand application requirements and provide guidance on data modeling and database design.


Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field; Master's degree preferred

- 8+ years of experience working with MongoDB in large-scale production environments

- 5+ years of experience in a senior database architect role

- Deep understanding of MongoDB's core concepts, including sharding, replication, indexing, and aggregation framework

- Expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and database administration across multiple database platforms

- Expertise in schema design and data modeling.

- Strong knowledge of MongoDB tools such as Compass, Ops Manager, Atlas, and Charts

- Experience with other NoSQL databases (e.g., Dynamodb, Cassandra, Couchbase) and SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle)

- Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, Go)

- Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture

- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their respective database offerings

- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes

- Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)

- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

- Understanding of machine learning and AI concepts as they relate to data architecture

- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills

- MongoDB certifications (e.g., MongoDB Certified DBA Associate, MongoDB Certified Developer Associate) required

- Additional database certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, Oracle Certified Master) are a plus

- Should be a driver in determining, implementing, and continuously improving the architecture and the security aspect throughout the systems, tools and workflows.
