Location: Boston Logan International Airport

Shift: 2nd; 12:00pm-8:30pm (Friday-Tuesday)

The Baggage Handling System (BHS) Assistants are responsible for monitoring bags that enter the baggage handling system from the check-in point to the end of its cycle at the makeup unit. This includes in front of the ticket counters and post screening points.

Baggage Handling System Assistant (Jammer)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and clear baggage system alarms
  • Clear simple baggage jams
  • Assist in loading and unloading luggage, packages, and cargo onto and off conveyor belts and carts, ensuring proper handling and care
  • Ensure proper lifting techniques
  • Monitor bags prior to entering TSA bomb detection machines and ensure proper placement on the conveyor system to prevent system jams
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunctions, damages, or safety hazards to leadership and assist in troubleshooting and repairs when required
  • Ensure bags that enter the Manual Encode station are released in a timely manner
  • Retag bags at the Manual Encode station as needed
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining cleanliness in the bag room
  • Load empty BHS tubs onto carts and transport them to designated staging areas for collection to place back into operation
  • Comply with all safety, security, and regulatory requirements at all times to ensure the smooth and secure operation of the baggage handling system
  • Assist in training new team members and provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure a high level of performance and efficiency within the team
  • Empty trash bins and dispose of waste properly to maintain cleanliness and prevent the accumulation of garbage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to lift up to 60lbs
  • Familiarity with safety, security, and regulatory requirements related to baggage handling system operations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by operational need
