The Role: Editorial Manager of Metals - Americas

The Location: Houston, TX, Washington DC

The Position: This person has managerial responsibility for all news activity carried out in the Americas Metals News team. You will lead a team with varying degrees of experience who create content that helps subscribers make informed trading/risk management decisions in the metals market. You will be responsible for helping to shape the strategic direction of the group as well as handling day-to-day operational matters. You will work in very close proximity with the regional heads of oil, gas, power, market reporters and analytic teams to ensure Commodity Insights content meets the highest editorial standards, is free of errors and libel risk, and is structured to have maximum impact.

The Impact: This person will have responsibility for developing and evolving our Americas Metals News coverage and publications to keep in line with changing market developments as well as ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to CI News Essentials, Platts branding and house style.

What We're Looking For: We are looking for someone who is experienced in, and curious, about metals and mining markets in the Americas. Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 2 editors, providing guidance and delegating tasks across content creation, multimedia creation, and PDF curation. Will also work with a roster of stringers outside the U.S. on a daily basis.
  • Collaborate with Metals leadership from EMEA and Asia to ensure a consistent approach to news coverage and workflows.
  • Stay current on market price movements by regular engagement with metals market price reporting team.
  • Original reporting, writing and editing as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with a broad base of relevant industry contacts.
  • Become known to the industry as a “go-to” person for discussion in Americas Metals market.
  • Be prepared to travel to engage with contacts, including subscribers, listening and often leading the discussion.
  • Contribute to digital media activities (e.g. blogs, podcasts, video).
  • Develop strong relationships with Production team to facilitate curation of PDFs and creation of dynamic infographics.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  • Significant leadership experience.
  • Deep knowledge of journalism and editing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of commodity markets.
  • Multilingual capabilities a plus.

Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates) S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position starts at 90,000.00. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual sales commission plan. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
