Yavapai Humane Society is located in beautiful Prescott, Arizona. We are seeking candidates in Yavapai County or in neighboring counties who are willing to commute on occasion to our campus in Prescott, AZ. This position can be Full Time or Part Time depending on the candidate.
The Director of Finance (official title: Deputy Director - Support Services) will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of Yavapai Humane Society. This position will oversee the finance department and collaborate closely with the marketing, development, and thrift store departments to align financial strategy with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit finance, strategic planning, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Oversee financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Monitor cash flow and financial performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
- Work closely with the marketing department to develop budget forecasts for campaigns and initiatives.
- Partner with the development team to create financial models for fundraising efforts, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
- Oversee the financial operations of the thrift store, optimizing profitability and supporting community engagement.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and accounting standards relevant to nonprofit organizations.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to mitigate risk and safeguard organizational assets.
- Coordinate the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement long-term financial strategies that support organizational growth.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to inform decision-making at the executive level.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions, contributing financial analysis and projections.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field; Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit finance, fundraising, and financial reporting standards.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
