JOB SUMMARY

The Legal Business Technology Leader will be responsible for aligning legal technology strategies with business objectives, ensuring efficient legal operations, and driving innovation within legal departments or law firms. You will have a deep understanding of legal processes and the regulatory environment, allowing them to optimize technology adoption, manage legal projects, and enhance client services through digital transformation. In addition, you will provide presales + solution delivery.


We are looking for a bright minded, self-motivated, team player with a strong background and skilled with a high degree of intellectual curiosity and abilities with:

Technology Strategy & Implementation:

  • Developing and executing a technology roadmap that aligns with the business and legal strategy.
  • Leading selection, implementation, and management of legal tech tools (contract management systems, eDiscovery tools, AI solutions for document review).
  • Staying up to date on emerging legal technologies and trends (AI, blockchain, automation) and assessing their potential impact.

Legal Operations & Process Optimization:

  • Streamlining legal workflows, improving process efficiency, and reducing legal spend through innovative technology.
  • Overseeing document automation, case management, and compliance systems.
  • Implementing data-driven decision-making processes and analytics to improve legal service delivery and transparency.

Cross-Department Collaboration:

  • Serving as the bridge between legal, IT, finance, and business units to ensure seamless technology integration.
  • Collaborating with cybersecurity teams to safeguard legal data and ensure compliance with privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).

Communicating the value and ROI of legal technology solutions to stakeholders and executives.

Project Management & Change Management:

  • Leading legal tech projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Managing change within the organization to foster a culture of innovation and digital adoption in legal processes.
  • Training and supporting legal teams on technology tools and platforms to ensure full utilization.

Vendor & Contract Management:

  • Negotiating with and manage relationships with legal tech vendors.
  • Overseeing the procurement of legal tech solutions and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Evaluating the performance and value of existing technology and service providers.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensuring legal technology systems comply with regulatory requirements and support risk management initiatives.
  • Leading efforts in data privacy and protection including the adoption of technology that supports compliance efforts.

Client Services & Innovation:

  • Enhancing client service delivery by leveraging technology to improve legal operations efficiency.
  • Leading development of tech-driven client solutions, such as self-service portals, AI-powered advice systems, and securing client collaboration platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Must be local to the Chicagoland area and willing to work onsite/hybrid Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays downtown Chicago is required.
  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school, Masters or Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Legal Studies or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a legal technology, legal operations, or law firm management role.
  • Presales + Solution Delivery: support sales, technical, and deliver teams by providing technical expertise, demonstrations, and solution presentations, as well as design, develop, and deploy IT solutions to address business needs and solve complex business challenges.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency with legal tech software (e.g., Clio, Relativity, iManage), contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems, and document management systems (DMS).
  • Project Management: Strong experience managing technology projects, with certifications like PMP or Agile being a plus.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional team environments, with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Data Analytics: Ability to work with legal data and analytics to provide insights and recommendations for business strategy.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified E-Discovery Specialist (CEDS), and Project Management Professional (PMP), highly desirable.
