THE POSITION

We are currently seeking detail-oriented Corrections Officer 3s to join our team at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette. In this role, you will oversee subordinate staff and be responsible for the care, control, and security operations of the institution. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Corrections Officer 3, your duties will include supervising officers and ensuring that they comply with all policies, procedures, and regulations governing custody and control in an institutional setting. You will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and monitoring correctional officer duties; conducting inspections; and completing a daily inspection report. Additionally, you will monitor officer assignments and strive to achieve maximum effectiveness with a minimum number of personnel. This role also involves conducting employee performance evaluations and interviews for potential subordinate staff, as well as providing training to support staff.
In this position, you will maintain a safe and secure environment for all inmates and staff members. This includes conducting regular security checks and addressing any issues that may arise. Additionally, you will be expected to participate in counseling inmates on personal and adjustment issues, as well as maintain through records and reports of all activities and incidents within the institution Your role as an overseer of daily schedules and operations is crucial in ensuring the smooth functioning of the institution and promoting a positive and healthy environment for all individuals involved.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work Schedule: To be determined
    • The selected applicant will work a 40-hour work week with rotating days off.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected applicants who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $52,306.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title); or
  • Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)
Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
