What will I be doing?

Job Summary:
The Data Engineer's responsibilities include designing, developing, and deploying Data Integration (ETL and or ELT) solutions using agreed upon design patterns and technologies; working with a large variety of data sources from json, csv, Oracle, SQL Server, Azure Synapse, Azure Analysis Services, Azure SQL DB, DataLake, polybase; and Streaming data sets.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Create workflows, templates, and design patterns
2. Communicate with stakeholders to obtain accurate business requirements
3. Create and perform unit tests for solutions
4. Convert existing SSIS packages into Azure Data Factory Pipelines
5. Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

1. Familiarity with SQL programming language basic fundamentals
2. Basic understanding of Python or R or Scala
3. Awareness of Python/Synapse/Snowflake Distributed/Parallel Computing
4. Basic understanding of modeling tools such as ERWin, Dbeaver, Lucid, Visio
5. Awareness of Git for version control of code repositories
6. Awareness of RDBMS Development tools: SQL Enterprise Manager, Visual Studio, Azure Data Studio.
7. Awareness of Open-source database platforms: MySQL
8. Awareness of Big Data frameworks such as Pyspark, Hadoop, etc.
9. Familiarity with Modern Data Estate patterns: Source to Raw To Stage To Curated
10. Familiarity with Databricks concepts: batch, streaming, autoloader, etc.
11. Familiarity with Cloud diagnostics, logging, and performance monitoring/tuning.
12. Understanding of data shoveling tools: ADF, Fivetran, Airflow, etc.
13. Database I/O skills -- writing/reading structured and unstructured DBs
14. Awareness of Debugging, documentation, testing, and optimization skills
15. Ability to convert business needs into technical requirements
16. Experience explaining DE concepts to business stakeholders
17. Experience communicating and collaborating effectively with a remote team
18. Experience communicating effectively with interdisciplinary teams of various technical skill levels
19. Ability to work effectively and deliver value in ambiguous settings

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, or equivalent.
2. 3+ years of broad-based IT experience with technical knowledge of data Integration (ETL, ELT) technologies and approaches, Data Warehousing, Data Lake Methodologies.
3. 3+ years' experience with SQL Server. Expert level TSQL knowledge required.
4. 3+ years' experience designing and implementing scalable ETL processes including data movement (SSIS, replication, etc.) and quality tools.
5. 2+ years' experience building cloud hosted data systems. Azure preferred.
6. 2+ years' experience with SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
7. 2+ years' experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

Physical Requirements:

1. The employee is frequently required to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time. The employee will occasionally walk; will frequently use hands to finger, handle, grasp or feel; and reach with hands, wrists, or arms in repetitive motions.
2. The employee will frequently use fingers for manipulation of computers and telephone equipment including continuous 10-key, handwriting, use of mouse, or keyboard.
3. Role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or move up to 10lbs on a frequent basis.
4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
5. Role requires being able to hear and use verbal communication for interactions with internal clients.

Work Environment:

1. The work environment is usually a traditional office, indoor setting with no exposure to outside elements.
2. This position requires no travel.
3. The employee will frequently be required to work closely with others and occasionally work alone.
4. This position may require a work schedule across weekends and holidays.
5. This position is subject to blackout dates which may include holidays where PTO is not approved.
6. May work remotely based on adherence to the organization's work from home policy.

Salary Range:
Pay ranges vary based on multiple factors including skill sets, education, responsibilities, experience, and geographical market. The pay range for this position reflects geographic based ranges for Washington state: $88,300 - $115,300 USD/annually. The salary/wage and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
