Job Requirements / Description

The supervisor oversees, guides, and coordinates the Shipping and Transportation Program, and supports the plant safety goals (SQF, GMP’s, etc.).

Control and record inbound/outbound truck activity, perform additional transportation-related activities as assigned by management. Knowledge of freight movement both TL & LTL is helpful. Driver scheduling and routing experience is required.

  • The individual is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the shipping department. They will communicate direction to union hourly employees, oversee the progress of order fulfillment for both fresh and frozen products, and review order status for deficiencies throughout the evening. This individual will also serve as a key point of contact for communicating issues between plants and other depots.
  • The individual will serve as the key point of contact for the transportation drivers and be responsible for addressing issues as they arise. They will also be responsible for communicating issues with the manager in a timely fashion.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining dock operations, including cleanliness, to allow for continuous shipping operation.
  • Follow, maintain, and evaluate trailer timing, transport driver timing, and dock status.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all other departments.
  • Train and cross-train shipping operators to be able to scan, load, and unload trailers to minimize disruption due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Required to come in during off shifts if needed for breakdowns and must be available to be contacted during off hours.
  • Complete daily paperwork including trailer inspections, schedules, logs, and all other pertinent documented information.
  • Ensure all employees, visitors, contractors, and all other employees on the assigned shifts are following all Company and OSHA rules relating to safety, GMP’s, security, and PPE policies and guidelines to keep the plant in compliance.
  • Ensure all transport drivers are following DOT regulations.
  • Responsible for keeping the dock and all associated shipping areas clean and in good condition.
  • Administer disciplinary action in accordance with Company policy when needed.
  • Notify the Plant, Transportation, Shipping, and Production Manager in a timely manner of all pertinent issues.
  • Notify the Quality Assurance Manager of any potential food safety risk.
  • Communicate and administer all Company policies and procedures consistently.
  • Work extra hours or extra days if necessary.
  • Commit to a continuous improvement work team environment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Working Relationship

  • Necessary to work as a team supporting and communicating properly with the other members of the production line and maintenance.
  • Position interfaces with all department management, leads, and machine operators to determine extent of maintenance assistance.
  • Assists outside carriers as needed.
  • Works closely with leaders and management.

Physical Demands

  • Pushing, pulling, bending.
  • Able to work on feet for the entire shift.
  • Perform tasks requiring standing, lifting, pulling, climbing of machinery and/or tooling.
  • Work in high ambient temperatures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficient in Excel/Word/Outlook.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations.
  • Punctual with strong attendance history.
  • 3 years of experience in a shipping/warehouse environment.
