Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The University of Maryland Alumni Association inspires lifelong connections with a global network of Maryland alums. In an effort to achieve this vision, we connect, cultivate and channel the power of alums to enrich their own lives, advance the university through membership, event engagement and volunteerism, and impact the greater good.
Reporting to the Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Program Director, Content Marketing is responsible for producing original content for the University of Maryland Alumni Association. The Program Director will supervise the Alumni Marketing Coordinator and serve as a liaison with the Office of Marketing and Communications, working collaboratively to develop effective messaging strategies for the Association.
The Program Director will create, manage and oversee original Alumni Association content. They will serve as the primary writer for the Association, producing high quality materials that support our marketing efforts, including but not limited to: event promotions, website copy, membership and philanthropic campaigns, remarks for senior staff, talking points for communications and feature stories highlighting noteworthy alumni and alumni programs. The Program Director will strategize ways to develop and implement new content and channels as a means of communicating the Alumni Association’s programs and services for alumni and the general university community.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated and creative, enjoys working collaboratively and independently, and can execute multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision and a high level of attention to detail.
This position will require occasional evening and weekend work, as needed.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
- Five (5) – Seven (7) years of professional experience in marketing, copywriting, journalism, communications, public relations or a related field.
- Skilled in creating original, engaging content that aligns with strategy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience working with a content management system such as Drupal.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or relevant leadership experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional writing and grammar skills with the ability to convey a variety of ideas in a clear and engaging manner.
- A genuine passion for writing and storytelling.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering error-free content.
- Highly creative and able to identify content needs, pitch ideas, create a content strategy and execute it with little guidance.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work seamlessly across teams.
- Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of AP style.
Preferences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related field.
- Alumni relations or higher education experience.
- Email and social media management experience.
- Proficient in SEO best practices and tools such as Google Analytics.
- Experience in graphic design and/or video editing a plus.

This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs.
Salary Range: mid $90,000s to mid $110,000s.
